This is wrong, ritz ran 2:07 at Chicago a few years back...I'm not double checking any more, but I'm going to assume more are wrong... You have been shamed misinfomaniac

Aaron braun was back fron pennel in 4:01 and he is a 2:12 marathoner. Good range from him as well.

Well. I also know that Ryan Hall ran 2:04:58, but it was "wind-aided" so I figured that's why it wasn't included. I forgot about Ritz 2:07 (sorry Ritz), and probably others.....And now that I look at the list more closely, taken from
www.usatf.org, it was last updated on 4/12/2011, a week before Halls 2:04.Thats quite a bit of time usatf!!! I could search down a more up to date and deeper US Marathon list, and cross reference it with the sub-4 miles....but I don't think I will :( ...so I will change my name from infomaniac to somewhat accurate info. At least appreciate that what I created does high lite the small list of high performance marathoners that have also broken 4.
Impressive. Probably doping or doing something illegal.
Tyler is a fabulous runner and stand up guy on the verge of big things. However, the one man who ends this conversation is Irish Olympian and Auburn distance coach, Mark Carroll. Another stand up guy.

Surprised nobody has mentioned the obvious, that Pennel ran the sub-4 AFTER his marathon best. I think all of the others did it (significantly) before, let alone the same year.
Good for him. Anybody not impressed by this feat is ignorant of physiology.
Great point, especially since it was basically done the Spring after a Fall Marathon.

What does that have to do with being ignorant of physiology?
The best triathletes are mediocre at several things. I am not sure what you do with a mile time and a marathon time that will not land you in the top 10 in either event? Oh, I know, it will get you a thread on Letsrun. Yawn.

Okay thats a little extreme like you are the frantic person saying HEY BE IMPRESSED EVERYONE!

its easier to do this feat a handful months after a marathon. Huge aerobic base, drop volume, do some mile specific stuff. As opposed to doing the mile then prepping for a marathon later.

These times allow him to beat the crap out of you at any distance.

And, yet, there are no other examples of it happening. The list provided was always the opposite. Just stating the fact.

Exactly my thoughts, lol
This means the sub 4 came from the aerobic end of development. More strength would bring the mile time down a bit more. Maybe a sub 2:12 is coming soon in the marathon as well.
