I thought his coach stated that Fisher would not be chasing the 4 minute barrier. And here he is chasing the 4 minute barrier.

My bet is that Mike still doesn't want him to do it, but that some 18-year-old kid thought it'd be pretty cool to ink his name into the history books. At that point, what can the guy who's only going to be coaching him for another month do?
That's right: nothing.
Kobe! out.

Liar! Hypocrite! How dare he! I hope Fisher insists on having the race changed to a 1500m! Or at least stop before the finish line and wait until the clock goes over 4-minutes!
Let's make it a contest! Predict Fisher's time for Thursday, and whoever comes closest wins a free copy of "How to Race the Mile" (Fisher already has a copy, so clearly the book works.)

How many miles/1600s/1500s does Fisher run this year? How many does Centrowitz run? Is Fisher overraced and Centro underraced?

I believe that his coach's point was that chasing sub 4 was not their goal. Racing people is their goal. This does not mean he is not going to run in fast mile races where he may have a chance to break 4. Did you expect him to altogether avoid any competitive races that are a mile long?
Assuming the weather cooperates, I think Fisher will squeak under 4 at 3:59 something. Best case scenario 3:58 something.
Whatever he goes thru 1200 in he'll close in 56
Does anyone know what his splits were last weekend from his 4:01 mile?
Lets just hope the double at state wasn't too taxing for him.Sub four wrote:

The rabbit can come in at 3:01 and he'll still get it. They'll run sub-60 the last lap. 2:55 would set him up for Webb's record.
Any link to a live stream?

Why is racing the same thing as "chasing times"? He is racing an appropriate number of times against appropriate competition. Does he want to compete as well as possible and run as fast as possible? Of course.
Any high school athlete or coach of a H.S. athlete who has a shot at running sub-4 and says they are not chasing times is lying or stupid...take your pick.
A couple of predictions here based off of how Festival of Miles normally goes:
1.Nobody goes with the rabbit except MacNamera. That is exactly how it went last year, and the field is extremely similar.
2. Only a handful (3-5 guys) will break four, so Fisher cannot be content with just getting pulled around or he will north of four again.
3. Recovery from the State meet will be a huge factor for him. As a result, his legs my not respond to faster paces early, and that will kill his kick. If they come through 1200 at 2:57 or lower, he doesn't break it. If they come through in 2:58-3:01, he will definitely break it.
4. Weather will be fantastic. It always is.

Finally a reasonable response to the back and forth about a quote in an article that was misconstrued by overly sensitive old codgers (opps... old coaches and armchair know it all's).
I remember his coach saying before the season starts he would not be chasing 4 minutes, things change

I would say the authors name (TrackCoach) is the one lying and he has repeatedly made statements about Fisher's coach that are stupid. Now he has stepped over the line by implying "any high school athlete" (since the topic is Fisher) is lying and stupid. This idiot that goes by the name of 'Track Coach' is implying Grant is lying and stupid and he is taking shots at an 18 year old phenomenal athlete.
'TrackCoach' has no credibility and shouldn't be allowed to post on Letsrun. Letsrun, do yourself a favor and clean up your message board from twits like 'TrackCoach'

Grant Fisher will be racing at the Nike Festival of miles this Thursday. The rabbit is supposed to bring the field through 1200 @ 2:55. This will surely be the day he breaks the 4 minute barrier.
It will and don't call me Shirley.
McNamara has been racing very poorly in drug tested races. Expect him to run VERY well here.
When and IF he beats Maton's time, he might be the top high school kid this year.
What joker said he would be close to Webb's time ???? He may never go under Webb's high school time in his whole career.....

If the rabbit has to be a high schooler, I give him a .005% chance of hitting that split. That is a legit D1 DMR leadoff split. 3:00ish - yes. 2:55 - no way.

Rabbit is Daniel Stockburger of Indiana Elite.
