Pat’s amazing achievements and easy going style made him a hero to the Long Island running community.
And that community has really responded after Pat's death to help his family. An astonishing $73,000 has been raised to help support his family (wife + 4 children; 2 with special needs). The campaign is still open if you want to contribute:
http://www.gofundme.com/BeaPetersenfamilyWhy in gods name is a smart, hardworking middle aged white collar guy with a wife and four kids (two with autism) cruising through life with no life insurance? Let this serve as a warning to others: Tomorrow isn't guaranteed, and you're not immortal.
Don't judge dxckweed. Perhaps his heart condition made him uninsurable.

Yeah, sorry Dick Cheese, you are WAY off base here. I ONLY was able to get life insurance for myself (non-smoker, non drinker, runner…) after almost a year of lobbying. An enlarged heart, which is just another term for athletic heart has made it almost impossible for me. Finally found a company willing to write me a policy, but am paying almost 2 1/2 times the premium I should qualify for. And as we all know from the write-ups/obits on Pat, he had a well documentd heart condition.
