Looks like he's hitting Franconia Notch today and perhaps Mt Washington tomorrow -- so big days! Apparently, after much rain, the weather isn't bad for his trip over the big mountain.
I noticed on his facebook account that his post early this morning about crossing into NH has already generated over 10,500 likes. He's generated a pretty strong following...
What's his trail name?
No trail name that I've seen referenced. Suspect that he prefers to be known by his own name... Outside Online has an article suggesting that this AT attempt could be Jurek's finale as a competitive ultrarunner.

Bismarck. Look it up.
Jurek ran until 5 am this morning to Galehead Hut, which puts him about 27 miles from Mt Washington when he started running again, apparently at around 9 am. Thus far he's really cruising through the Whites, though hopefully he isn't crushing himself in the process.
Was in Shenandoah National Park to camp Monday night. Was invited by some thru-hikers to bring my firewood and join their campfire and eat some smores and have a a beer or two.
They weren't fans of what Jurek is doing. Basically saying good for him but he's missing out what thru-hiking the AT is all about.
They are probably also the type of people that think a marathon isn't meant to be run hard and should embrace the atmosphere....Been following the thread since day 1 and I hope he kills the record!!Go Scott!

This definitely an amazing feat. AT isn't easy at all. And I'm sure he's gotten plenty of nature. I'm sure golfers watch PAC-12 XC and say "that's not what it's about"

So, I take it that what "thru-hiking the AT" is really "all about" is eating s'mores and drinking beer? Um, okay.
Looks like Jurek took his time covering the 15 miles from Galehead Hut to Crawford Notch today, apparently resting most of the afternoon in the valley before taking back off tonight for the Presidentials for his second all-night run. Hope the moonlight is bright tonight over Mt. Washington...
Yesterday I very briefly met Scott, his wife, and his crew in the parking area across from Webster Cliffs trailhead (across Rt. 302 up the short road).
I had hiked from Mt. Jackson, heading south on that section of the AT through Webster, and down the Webster Cliffs trail.
There were about 20-30 people in the parking area sitting/milling around. most were day-hikers and through-hikers (who had no idea who Scott was) and the rest were assorted runners/fans interested in see Scott (including me).
Scott was very gracious - took time to take photos with everyone (even the group of about ten 20-something through hikers would all decided to take photos with him - even though they didn't know who he was! But they were a fun group joking around, etc.)
I think he is going to set the record - but I also think it's going to come down to the wire!
It looked on his facebook tracker like he took a longish afternoon at the 302 junction, and then started up again, late. However, he apparently stopped at Mizpah Spring hut yesterday evening instead of pushing on -- so only a 21 mile day-- by far his shortest of the trip so far. Feeling the effects of the previous all night effort? According to the spreadsheet, he's only about 10 miles over JPD's pace, pretty close after 38 days, so I think you may be right about coming down to the wire...
The spreadsheet hasn't been updated, but the beacon signal posted on Jurek's website indicates he may have stopped at Imp Shelter around midnight last night, making for about a 32 mile day. Some were thinking he might have wanted to push through to Gorham Notch, which would have added another 8 miles.
It seems that from Virginia -- where Jurek was a full day behind Pharr Davis -- and into the Whites, Jurek was consistently able to chip away, until he had built up that 23 mile cushion by Galehead Hut (after an all night hike).
However, It seems that presently he's moving at a similar pace to Pharr Davis as he heads for the Maine line and the Mahoosucs. I wonder if he is content to just hold pace now through these rough sections, and then see if he can't start building time when the trail evens out a little.
Why does his GPS data look like he cut a chunk of the trail off in the white mountains? Im genuinely asking, as i really have no idea as to what counts and what doesnt.

Don't know for sure, but someone on Whiteblazes.net thinks that the battery on the GPS signaler was running low, thus the short gap. It wasn't because he skipped a section, etc.
It's also common to lose satellites in the steep, tree-filled gullies and gorges in the eastern mountains.

Maybe I'm being cynical, but those guys sound a little jealous.
Also, I'm not from the US, what are "smores"?
I know this has been mentioned but I love a couple guys getting hammered and eating smores droning on about another "missing out."
