He now has fewer than 50 miles to go. I just hope he has enough sleep in the bank. If so, this should be a slam dunk.

1:50 pm update: Scott is at Pemadumcook Lake.
Link, I have a question:
Your white blaze site has the AT at 2185.9 miles. Is that what you are basing the mileage on?
Sat 2:08 pm update:
Scott working his way to Wadleigh Pond. 35 miles left when he gets there.

Yes. Is that not right?

That's what I'm going on, too. So many different measurements of the trail out there, but white blaze seems very accurate.

Pemadumcook Lake:
http://rohland.homedns.org:8008/at/at_MEsection2/ATPictures.aspxJurek seems to be moving smoothly. I'm sure he's starting to taste it like a vegan donut.
Jurek very close to Nahmakanta Stream, which is the 2141.4 point. 44.5 miles to go at that point.
He should be to the lake, by now, unless he's resting?

Should be by now. Last update 3:09 pm.
It appears that he has covered the last 18 miles (since Jo Mary Rd) in 6 hours. He's got a climb and some rollers coming up, but certainly has the potential to get to Rainbow Lake Camp by nightfall. Then it's just a marathon to the finish.

He's at the east end of Lake Namakanta now, 41 miles to go. Weather forecast 60% chance rain, scattered thunderstorms.
He and Jenny have this to consider:
Cut-Off Times (start times) for Climbing Katahdin (May, June and July)
Katahdin Stream 12:00 Noon
Abol 12:00 Noon
Roaring Brook 12:00 Noon
Chimney Pond 1:00 p.m.
Seems that he got to Nahmakanta a bit after 4 pm and maybe took a short break before starting up again.
Jurek's covered the 26.7 miles from East Pleasant Branch River in a little less than 12 hours -- so give him an average pace through today (breaks included) of about 2.25 mph. He's holding steady.
Did he break the record

25.7 miles - Lake Nahmakanta (east end) to Abol Bridge.
It is 6:30pm now. How far does he have to Abol Bridge?
He could do 30 miles @ 2.0 mph by 9:30am.
AND...He must depart Abol BEFORE 12:00 noon (park rule) for Katahdin to even be allowed a summit attempt today.
15.2 miles - Abol Bridge to Katahdin summit, which he must reach before 5:15pm to get the AT supported record.
At 2.0 mph, he'll need 7.6 hours to reach the summit from Abol.
He must leave Abol for Katahdin by 9:30am to barely get the record.
Seems to have taken about a 2 hour break at Lake Nahmakanta, and is back on the move. About 20 miles to Abol Bridge. Assuming he gets down off Nesuntabunt Mt before dark, he can cruise and get to Abol by 6 am. Unless he decides to take another break just before sunrise.

That's what I think also...6:00am at Abol.
It's 8:00pm now, He's just past Crescent Pond, so has 32 miles left: 17 miles to Abol + 15 miles to Katahdin summit.

new math? wrote:Hmmmm, can you show your work on those ratios?
I get:
100 miles to 1 mile = ratio of 100:1
2189 miles to 100 miles = ratio of 21.89:1.
In terms of ratios, the 100 mile is nearly 5x FURTHER from a Mile than 100 Miles is to the AT.
May want to give that one a closer read, pal.
Unless we're reading something other than English, I'm right.

I think he meant that 100 miles - 1 mile= 99 miles, and 2185.9 miles - 100 miles= 2085.9 miles.

Original post very clearly says 100 METERS is closer to a mile than 100mi is to the AT.
100m to 1mi = ratio of 1:16.0934
100mi to 2189mi = ratio of 1:21.89
We clear now, buddy?

8:30P Scott ready to cross Pollywog stream, which is marker 2153.3. 32.6 to the summit from there, given 2185.9 at the end.
