Once, when Komen ran him out and broke the WR.
This has never happened.
wtfunny: In Zuerich in 1995, almost all of the best athletes were in the field: Baumann, I. Kirui, D. Komen, Kennedy, Sghir, Tergat, Sigei, K. Boulami, P. Bitok, Bayissa. Gebrselassie just ran away from them.
Yes, most of his other records were special record attempts with no real competition for him (this - for sure - mainly because of his unique class). In many of his other competitions he mainly ran for the win, correct. Which he achieved almost any time during his track-dominance between 1995 and 1999 (had just two defeats in distances longer than 1000m: over 1500m against El Guerrouj and over 5000m against D. Komen). Not so bad I would say.
Farah's career so far just is not anywhere near Gebrselassie's, this is just a fact. I thought he at least will achieve a new PB in Eugene - but he failed. Still a good victory, but nothing which could close the gap between him and Gebrselassie and Bekele significantly.
