Rowbury got out well ahead of the pack but also well behind Phoebe Wright, the pacesetter, so she got up to Wright. Simpson was leading the pack and well behind for quite awhile, then caught up and when Wright dropped out at 900m, Simpson and the rest were drafting off of Rowbury, though Simpson was on her right shoulder to cover Hassan and others. Rowbury maintained the lead around the last turn a ways and then Simpson led the others past her and powered home. They were around 2:58 at 1100m, so close was under 62 for Simpson. 4:00.8 or so. A few other Americans, including Moser and Sarah Bowman? were under the A standard as well.

wow - she is in the big leagues now
amazing stuff
Mary who?
is little centro already celebrating his "victory"?
Would Cain have run the 800 or the 1500?
These guys are far from no names but I'm still appreciating the Nike's variety in race kits for this mile. Orange, yellow, purple, blue, Kenyan scheme. Good stuff.
And or course, black for OP
2nd centro
And that is why Centro is always a medal threat in championship races
centro 2nd, best DL race he's had. 3:51, show through 1200
Ayanleh Souleiman is unbeatable right now. Asbel and Silas are not at their best.
Souleman mad the "jerk off" motion when he crossed the line.
What were those patches on soleman's legs?
Abel just ran a stupid race, sitting at the back, but he finished well.
RM directors need some kind of rule to push athletes to stick with pacers/times. It's beyond pointless having pacers sit 30m ahead of the pack.
I noticed that the announcers didn't even mention Olympic Silver medalist while he stood next to Centro at the line.
Think they were paid to not mention him since he is not Nike any more?
He was in good position but got jumped and bumped with 200 to go.
Nice race by the Centro, by the way.
Centro looked smooth as always. Nice to see him mixing it up FTW even though the pace was not sub 3:50.
Would have been so sweet if he could have taken the W though

The same thing his bud Makhloufi used in the London 1500m after dropping out of the 800m due to injury, before dominating the field with ease
At least they were consistent - didn't mention his name during the race either even though he was running third much of the time.

no.
the morons who call the races for NBC do zero research. they learn the names of 3 people that some guy tells them and have no clue about anyone else.
Centro is always talking about how he doesn't get good positioning in DL races because he doesn't get off the line quickly enough. However, today, because even Souleiman didn't come close to catching the pacemakers, there was plenty of room to stick in 2nd and even to go ahead of Souleiman earlier, but Centro is very good in races like this, through 1100m in around 2:57, so a 54 finish, roughly. Would have been nice to actually use the pacers, but I'm pleased to see Centro make such a good play for the victory, just a tenth down, and ahead of Kiprop, who was charging hard.
Lots of hot stuff. Dibaba was obviously the most impressive, Caterine Ibarguen was huge, and Kirani James. Shelly Ann and Murielle Ahoure looked very great as well.
