1) How do you get pacers that bad? Barely made it to 4k. I think if pacers make it to 6-7k we get 26:3x high or better
2)Props to Tanui, both Mo and Kamworor owe him. Guy knows it's not a race he can win, but it was nice to seem him take the initiative to at least get a solid time from the race.
3) Minor props to Mo, he didn't totally mess around here, and did cooperate with Tanui some. I think however there was still some timidity there on his part.
4)Kamworor was a total disappointment. Talked and talked about how it would be hammerfest time and then he just sat on while Mo and Tanui did all the work.
That said, his kick was pitiful, so it's possible he was just holding on to the back of the leading duo and didn't have it in him to take some turns in front.
5) Rupps race was reasonable. Would have been nice to see him get up on the pacer...but no one else did either. That said he fancies himself a kicker and may not be in top form yet, so just played it safe.
Liked several things about his race. For one, it was a better time than I expected given his illness/injuries. I expected him to be dying off on 12:10 pace. The other really nice thing is that he ran with serious confidence the last two laps. Made a BIG move at 650 to go up near the front, then took order at the front with 400 to go.
Young ethiopian was way to good for Rupp tonight, but that 650 move probably cost Rupp a second place. Respectable effort for what is a rust buster race.
Still, medaling at 5000 will be a BIG ask for Rupp, as this field lacked in form Alamirew, Ndiku, and Farah. Barring injury I feel confident saying Rupp will win silver at 10,000 in worlds.
