he's also run a half marathon in 1:48.02.

6:45 is a joke. He is a 2:47 marathoner, he just doesn't have any speed left at 37 years old. He thinks he could run 4:40 in shorts on a track for the mile but I think more like 5:10 to 5:20.
Having said all that, the 1:48 HM was in the gear!!!!!!
Now that is impressive.
As someone who's run in boots and a 40lb pack for 12 miles I will say that top speed is diminished greatly but you end up maintaining a moderate speed for a long time and your speed isn't going to change much.
In ACUs, boots and a 40lb ruck I can go 10:00 pace for 12 miles. I can do 1-2 miles at 8:00, anything more than that is 9:00-10:00.

PS I've done a 2:32 Marathon
edited for bragging
Poor guys who finished together with him.
I could crush this. I've run a sub 6 mile in a full body gorilla suit where I couldn't see or breathe and a low 6 min mile while wearing 40 t-shirts (weighed over 20 pounds).

Adding weight to the arms or feet slows you down a lot more because those parts of the body are oscillating back and fourth versus a T-shirt that remains stable. If you can only run a low 6 mile with 20 lbs of shirts then I am definitely betting against you.
He needs to move up to the explosives handling suit

Gravity doesn't care if you are oscillating. Weight is weight.

In addition to weight, angular momentum is increased along the arms and thus more resistant to changes in direction, which reduces cadence.
You Fail Bill Nye
