Just saw Symmonds go down on American Ninja Warrior.

what obstacle did he go down on?
the second (satin rope I believe). Terrible marketing move to say the least.
Yah. Unfortunately he was only on TV for about 5 seconds. =(
that's really early on. i heard him say he was humbled.
Did random fat guy or roided xfit guy go further?
My guess is yes.
He's lucky he didn't jack up his knee like that one dude.

If either of those guys had the skills required - balance, grip strength, explosiveness, hand-eye coordination, the ability to quickly adapt to unfamiliar obstacles - , then yes, you guessed correctly. If either of them did not, then your guess is wrong. If you all you do is run a lot of miles - or play basketball, or football - or, God forbid, xfit, you're probably not getting through.
Sean Obrien made it through the course a few years ago.

Did he do any other training? Did he make it through the preliminary course? The city finals?

Was impressed with the guy who jacked up his knee. He even went on a little further over a part where he really only needed to use his upper body but then got crushed on the part where he needed to use the trampoline. Physically dumb move as he may have hurt himself more (initial claim was there may be broken bone below the knee) but it took guts.

Terrible marketing by the TV producers if you ask me. Did anyone even know when this was coming out? You'd think their PR firm would reach out to us. I wanted to watch the show.

If Symmonds had gotten past the second stage, then maybe they would have. Instead, he was shown for 5 seconds as one of the extra failures after a commercial break showing how he missed on the second stage. I think only 1 person did not pass the 1st stage and that guy did the first stage in a very stupid way and deserved to fail there. If you can hop 5 times, you can pass that first stage.
Not sure how many people were in the qualifying stage but Symmonds definitely was not one of the top 30 to advance and may not have been in the top 50 (depending on how many people were in the regional qualifying round). His performance was so bad it wasn't worth them promoting him since I doubt many people but track fans really know who he is (despite what we want to believe on this forum). The Seattle Seahawks punter went a stage further than he did and they promoted him some as well as the veterans of the show.
NBC has been promoting the start date for yesterday for a while - just not necessarily with Symmonds and that makes sense considering his performance.
They was no lack of promotion for the show, but don't worry Rojo, it is on again tonight on Esquire channel, though I'm not sure they show the same exact show, so maybe Symmonds won't make the cut.
Can't wait for track and field viewership to explode after this high profile, national-level exposure!

There is like 20 feet of running in this thing, right?
Why on earth would he even attempt this?

You make it sound like Symmonds is household name/A list celebrity. He is neither. So why should they waste their time promoting Symmonds?
Wait... All you win is $500K? I just watched a video and the guy was talking about winning $500k and how it would turn his world around. No it wouldn't. He'd end up with $415k or so and most would probably get wasted. I am sure he has a ton of debt and even if he doesn't, that is roughly ~$100k for four years. Living on $100k isn't exactly rolling in the dough.
You'd think a competition like this would award more than $500k.
Is that for completing the course or winning the entire thing? What?
Just awesome. Way to buck the conception that runners aren't real athletes. Glad the show didn't build him up.
Insufficient grip strength velocity.
