I coached a kid in H.S. that LJ over 23' and HJ over 7' and could 49 in the quarter. He was offered all kinds of scholarships in the sooutheast, but the kid was strung out on b-ball. The young man is still sitting in his hometown doing nothing.

Hey, I didn't say picking OSU was his ONLY mistake. Just his first big one that was common public knowledge.

Liz Mueller. Footlocker champion as a senior - Central Connecticut for college, boxing after that.
I knew a guy that smoked pot everyday along with other drugs and still managed to run in the 9:30's his sophomore year, but eventually failed several drug tests and was forced to quit
In high school we had a kid move in from kentucky. He was 19 at the time but was forced to take junior and sophmore classes because of the difference in school systems. He went to states in about four events and I believe won the high and long jumps. He had to say another year in high school but wasn't eligable to compete another season, so he dropped out and now works in a gas station.
We had a senior in h.s., ballet dancer..he ran 1:53 on nothing...quit for NYC
With Ohio State in the news, I'll say Nelloms because he was a complete sleaze-bag and Rob Gary for gettinginto coaching and splitting his attention. Ran 8:19 for the steeple as a college senior (a deadly kick) and never has run faster.
Anyone hear of a guy by the name of Andrew McLoud?
One of the greatest talents i have ever seen personally... Indianapolis/Lawrence Centrals Tyron Green. This kid's event was the 800. He ran 1:50.1 his senior year. But beyond that, he ran the 100m in 10.6, the 200 around 21.4 or so, 400 open at 47.2, and split under 47 a few times in relays... he also ran 15:4x in XC his freshman year... but really never persued XC. He also LJ'ed over 23FT... 26'6" i think. He was also a basketball player for his HS, good player. Anyways... He decided to drop college... and become a rapper... havent heard of him since. This could had more god given talent then perhaps any other athlete out of Indiana. He could have ran a 4:10 mile if he wanted to/trained for it. He really had a "i could care less" demeanor. If you knew, or saw the kid perform... you would know that he really didnt have much of a drive.
Gary Kelly won PA states in 1992 XC and 3200 meters I think at a national HS meet he ran 9:05. Went to Hagertown JC ran ok, Not even close to what he could do. Gary was also named to PA's 3rd team in Basketball only played half the season due to problems at home.
Another kid from NY that ran for Hagerstown JC won nationals in xc back in the 80's his first name was Ottis I think but he also just stop running.
Definitely remember Andrew McLoud. He was a senior when I was a frosh. Hell of an 800 guy, went to VA Tech.... enough said... One of the many great runners from my conference, including Webb, Keira Carlstrom, Laura Heiner, Matt Maline, RIcky Harris and now Christo Landry. Crazy amount of talent comes out of the Concorde District.
henry rono was the the biggest wasted talent.
How ironic...I knew a promising young miler by the same name that gave up running to play soccer. Wow...what a small little world.Hoovis

When I was 12 I ran against a guy in the Essex County Champs 1500 called David Beckham, he ran about 5mins off no training. For some reason he gave up running to play football, what a loser!

Sure. A guy who owns a handful of WR as a college student really wasted his talent. Care to tell me how much higher he could have gone, save the Olympic gold??????
Some hung guy, I think it was a play on words. Wasted, as in alcoholic, talent. Glad to clear that up for you.
My bad, that response was for bum, not Some Hung Guy.
shannon butler. ran some good times but what could have he done if he stayed away from the pub.
Got it. Damn I'm dumb sometimes.....
