Ah. I see. Because the caffeine in tea is better for you than the caffeine in coffee.

Starbucks' Chai Tea contains ephedra which is the drug that disqualified the NYC marathon runner. I don't think that ephedra helps a distance runner, but it is dangerous. Starbucks is under investigation for using ephedra and their product was actually confiscated in other countries.

If you want to DQ your opponent, hand them a cup of Starbucks before a race. You also endanger their life!

I've been drinking a combo of coffee and pepsi (tastes better than it sounds), man the sugar and caffiene, gets me bouncing! This last new years I was drinking Irish Cream Liqour with shots of expresso. Drunk and buzzing!

In bodybuilding circles the preferred cocktail to get you wired up is caffeine, ephedrine, and aspirin. This combination is supposedly quite potent.

I've never added the ephedrine into the equation for running (due to ethics, fear of an aneurysm), a double or triple shot of espresso and a couple of aspirin before a race does the trick though.

It is sad that we rely on this garbage though.

I drink around 5 cups of coffee per day and drink just over a liter of pepsi. Right now I haven't worked out in 3 months solid and I smoke minimum of 3 packs of cigareetes per day. Luckily I'm not around anyone who smokes pot or I would be doing that too. I onlly like to indulge in the stuff I need--not the stuff I don't need. Otherwise I get this strange feeling of guilt--like I should be cutting back or something. Has anyone experienced this? It makes me feel like a nerd--like looking up some girl's dress using mirrors on my shoes. Under age of course. I have never done such a thing--but I have that sort of guilt feeling, as if I did it unaware of myself. Only because I thought of doing it.

Go to Yahoo and enter Starbuck ephidrene. You will see a long list of entries. One will tell you about the confiscations and others will list the lawsuits and the reasons why ephidrene is so dangerous. Stay away from Starbuck.

Okay, I consider myself a healthy runner. I know runners that can drink alcohol regularly and eat almost anything they want, and still race and train successfully. But this does not describe me, I need to eat healthy, not drink alcohol allot, and train smart and learn to listen to my body. This brings me to caffeine in coffee and tea. I have had the opportunity to train with and be friends of Kenyan and South African runners who drink tea like it is water. The Kenyan's diet consisted of Stew, Ugali, Water, Gatorade, and about 4 or 5 cups of tea every day, and the occasional "American" meal when we went out to eat. I have adapted much of the Kenyan's diet and training into my lifestyle and have found it very useful and healthy. I have learned over time to listen to my body, so when I am craving a cup of java after a good workout or race, I reward myself for that day and then it is back to healthy living.

Also, after many nights in clubs and DJ'ing into the morning, I have come up with a couple crazy mixtures to help keep me "feeling good" legally, while other people are on X, and G. I mix very strong coffee with , creamer, sugar, and Vodka. But if I really want to fly all night, I mix Gatorade, Red Bull, and Vodka. Most people assume I am just drinking my usual Gatorade, and it doesn't give me a hangover since I am still hydrating also.
