It's missing the defending world champ, defending DL champ, and the guy who has shown the best form so far this season, all 3 different guys. What other event would you call stacked without those pieces?

I must apologize. I believe so strongly that Rupp will be #1 in the "world", and he is ready to take over the mantel from Farah, that I get upset when others don't see the obvious. Rupp will become #1, mark my words.

You and every other moronic fanboy around here.

Would you call a 100m without Bolt, Gatlin, or Blake "Absolutely Stacked"
The field is not week, but none of them are close to their PBs for testing reasons.
Who should they have invited then?
'Not in shape yet' - its May
Rupp is not past his best he has just been screwed up by the ridiculous Al Sal post race workouts. Is he still doing those- if not he might get back running well
Koech and Rop did not have good year last year.
Alamirew and Soi had a great battle in Paris last year.
Lagat can probably still run sub 13:10, but sub 13 would be shocking.
Rupp should be able to run under 13 on paper, but the sub 13 5k has always been a barrier for him.
Lawi Langlang could have a breakthrough, but was not so great last year either.
Of course, 2014 was not a WC or Olympic year. So, who knows what those performances really indicate. But, outside of Koech, Rop, Alamirew, Soi and Rupp, I do not see anyone else in the field doing anything that special.
The field is missing Ndiku, Edris, Longosiwa, and Gebrhiwet. So, it is not "absolutely stacked". But it probably has arguably five of the top 10 5k guys out there right now. It is a very strong field and there may only be one or two other 5ks before WC that can compare.

So how could it be stronger then? Different athletes with slower PRs that you think are in better shape?
Not sure why you are on Rupp's case about sub 13.
Did you know that only two races the entire year last year produced a sub 13 time?
And Rupp beat almost everyone in the 5000 at some point last year because he was consistent.
I am not sure that you understand the sport.
I agree. Pre's advertisement is correct. It is a stacked field and their current state of fitness is irrelevant.
So, if Geb, Komon, and Tergat were added to the field it would become that much more stacked?
I agree that the hype is hyperbolic, but the runners are still elite and a 5,000m race at this level is always exciting. Yes it's too early in the year to expect anything under 12:58. No there is no evidence Rupp is on the decline. Yeah he just fathered a kid (twins) but perhaps is laying low before rio. Rupp is due for 12:48 in the next few years, you heard it here first.

I did not hear that here first, people have said that for a couple of years now, and yet it has never happened and never will happen.
And an American record nonetheless. Almost broke the 13 min indoor which is pretty incredible.
Just complete BS that he can never run under 13 again.
However, it is early in the season so I don't expect a super fast race. But an exciting one nevertheless.
Rupp ran 4 PRs last year. 2 in January and 1 on may 30th and another in September....
I'm also angry. I don't agree with ANY of YOU!

Any event that has more than 3 competitors on approximately the same level, as the 5000 clearly does these days :)
anyone know why Levins isn't racing?

He has stated that he will be in the Pre 10k, though the start list for that hasn't officially been released yet.
This has got to be one of the dumbest threads ever at letsrun. Look at the names in that 5000 (on USA soil!) For the love of god, we are we complaining?
Did I miss something or was that Rupp 26:44 just last year? So he cannot break 13 now huh?
Only at letrun is news of this 5000 seen as negative. Unfckbelieveable.
So you anything about track, fool? Running 26:44 last year, and rust-busting sub 13 this year is not in the cards for Rupp--unless AlSal has something new up his IV sleeve.
I agree
There's tons of big names who aren't in this and half the field isn't even in top shape, lagat has been kinda ehh since he's getting older, you really cant bank on a fast time from him nor Rupp having this be his rustbuster and he only ran 1 indoor race (8:16 2 mile)
Alameriw- is out of shape right now
Koech- didn't have a hot race at Doha (no pun intended, it was 95 degrees)
Soi or Rop might do well
Lagat- is past prime, unless this gets really tactical he wont be a factor
Rupp- this will be his rustbuster, hasn't proven any fitness so far
Lalang- I maybe could see him 13:05-13:10
Juan Luis Barrios- in shape, but only has a 13:09 PB wont be a factor towards the last couple laps
Ryan Hill- hasn't been as good as his 7:34 indoor 3k over a year ago, has ran 3:38 3 times, and 13:14 twice, seems to be a strict 3k guy, lacks endurance for this field
Mo Ahmed- he's gotten beat up at his past two mini DL races (Stanford Invite and Payton Jordan)
Then there's a couple of other who have PB's that are over 13:10 (might be pacemakers)
Where's Farah? Ndiku? Gebrehewit? Merga? Gebremeskel? Edris? Longosiwa? Tariku Bekele? John Kipkoech? Kipchoge? Masai? Taniu? Kiptoo? Not even some of the top US names are in this...
This field is far from "absolutely stacked"
Well, I for one am excited to see this guy: Yomif Kejelcha- this guy had the guts to take it to Farah in Doha.
People with PBs over 13.10 pacemakers? I'm going out on a limb and predicting Kejelcha as the guy with the slowest PB to take the win.

Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
