unfortunately when it comes to female runners who are high school prodigies, you can't help but wait to see if the other shoe drops.
I'll never forget watching the state xc meet in my home state a few years after I graduated. Some Frosh girl destroyed the field, and as she ran by I looked at her and said "she'll never finish top 10 again". The next year she was back in the 20s, year after that in the 40s, then she disappeared altogether.
Hopefully that won't happen to Cain, but the signs are there. 4:16 is a massive drop off from where she was the last couple years.
I'm rooting for Cain, hoping for the best, but not surprised by this in the slightest.
