The RoJo statement that talent doesn't go away, may be true for men, but not for women.
Nature takes that talent away when it makes young girls women.
Sad, real sad. Her 1500 times are almost the same as her mile time was two years ago.
There is nothing the AlSal camp can do to beat Mother Nature.
What if the internet required breathalyzers?
It sure would be great to verify who posts under the influence and who doesn't...
It's way too early to tell with Cain.
I've followed this sport since 1971. And I have seen so many young women runners that were dominate as freshmen and sophomores have their bodies change and they could not approach their times as they got older.
Its not under the influence that I say this, it's a fact of Mother Nature.
I've posted before the female body changes between 16 and 17 ( sophomore to junior year).
Based on Cain's performances over the last year her body has changed and it will not let her obtain the performances of two years ago.

Merber had a lot left with 50 to go, if he hadn't let himself get boxed in I think he would've been much closer to Wheating and Manzano.
boxed is right went from 6th at 400 to go to the back of the pack by 150 to go. Where that hole came from reminds me of Moses parting the sea.
Fleet was stride for stride on the run in.
Merber splits

it was =3;58 mile race they should have had a lot left
Speaking of contingency plans, how could USATF not have the foresight to run part of the meet or all of it on a day that didn't have inclement weather?? Surely they knew the weather could turn bad.
Could you imagine the NFL completely canceling a game and not replaying it at a later date?
BINGO. THE MEET CAN'T BE CANCELLED. i don't care if the timers, if USATF officials have flights home tmw. You run the rest of the heats Friday night.
Major sporting events don't get cancelled they get postponed. WE talk about that here:

http://www.letsrun.com/?p=76245Post of the night!! You made me laugh at 2:25 am!!
Solid race by the young lady, finished in 29.7 for the last 200m. Can't wait to see her next 1500. Why was she in heat 3?
Any update on the meet status?? C'mon HOKA do something!
Wejo if this were MLB it would be canceled and the game over. Many NCAA basketball/football games have started and been canceled.
Why compare to NFL? There was plenty of lightning last night and I'm sure the coaches were briefed along with the athletes. It's been mentioned several places that the venue isn't available today. $5000 wouldn't even get you timing.

Now that their events have been cancelled, what do they do? Bag the day? Go out and get their run/workout in anyway, in the deluge? Will the organizers even let them on the track at all?
Just curious what they will do in a situation like this.
Yeah, I saw on Oregon Project's Twitter feed that they had a 5k treadmill race at the Hilton or something. Anyone know the results? :)

And would those hotel treadmills even go fast enough? Seem most treadmills top out at 12mph (5:00/mile pace), which is far slower than those guys would be racing a 5k at.
That is besides the point. When you have a big event set up with athletes that cross the world to attend...you have a back up plan ahead of time. How much red tape is involved in securing a facility? There are plenty of tracks out there.

I’m honestly puzzled that some of you seem surprised the organizers didn’t reschedule the meet. As someone who used to get paid to run much smaller events, cancelling seems like the expected and sensible thing to do. I have some questions for the arm-chair meet organizers out there:
1) Do comparable meets really have contingency plans for finishing the meet the next day? I'd bet not.
2) How often has this meet, or meets in CA more generally, been delayed or cancelled by rain? A rain storm like this is pretty rare in LA in May. I’d bet it truly was a "black swan," a completely unexpected event. By definition, nobody can plan for such events, and it would be irresponsible to do so.
3) Does anyone know how much $$$ it would cost to finish the meet the next day? For example: How much would it cost to put down a deposit on a stadium? Get insurance? Keep people on standby? And so on?
4) Would the runners have stuck around for another day? Re-booking flights and hotel rooms takes time and money.
5) Have any other meets been rescheduled or organized on such short notice? In a major metropolitan area? On a Friday?
The only example I know of was in in summer of 2012 when Vin set up a meet so several OTC athletes could get the A standard before the Trials. This was Eugene, not LA, and Vin was a local, with an army of minions. Even so, making this happen was a major production. The details weren’t settled until the last minute, and then it was at Lane Community College, not Hayward Field.
1) excuses
2) excuses, and silly
3) Oh come on. All you need is a track and the timing company. There have to be a hundred tracks in the area, how hard could it be to find one to use?
4) Don't know but I know a lot of them were really counting on this meet to hit times for USAs. I bet many would've raced the next day.
5) excuses

Well, that's the question, isn't it?
It could be hard, it could be easy. I'm leaning towards hard, but since I'm relatively ignorant, I'd be interested to know the facts.
Here's a suggestion. Maybe instead of bloviating about the failures of the meet organizers, management could have set the crack LRC team loose to find out what really happened. Have them call the meet organizers, and ask what sort of contingency plans they made, and why. Ask how (and when) they decided to delay and then cancel, the meet. Have them call some of the athletes and see what they have to say. Maybe do a little research, and find out what other meets do.
PS I know, I know: "Getting the facts" is too old school for cutting edge media outlets such as LRC.

This is why LetsRun will never truly be respected. Moronic posts like this.
Ten$ of thousand$ of dollar$ would go into running the race the next day. HOKAmdc wasnt a national championship for cripes sake. No team was being selected. A rare storm came through and that's that. Let it go. Some good racing happened some other racing didn't. On to the next.
Wejo - why don't you put your money where your mouth is and host an event. And correct me if I'm wrong, but you didn't even show up to Oxy.

Or maybe because of the insults and name-calling?
First -- Tens of thousands? I have to doubt a timing co. would charge that much to time 6 races or however many were left. Can you substantiate this with actual costs of timing a one-day meet.
Second -- Ten thousand bucks is not too much to ask from a sponsor who's supposedly supporting the meet. Think of the 100+ thousand dollars people spent traveling to the meet.
Third -- it would've been fun/cool. Just saying it was a good chance for the meet organizers to step up and do something really positive, and they totally missed that opportunity. Definitely dropped my opinion of Hoka.
