Ayana's overall pace was faster than the rabbit's.

Ayana is easily in WR shape. Genzebe is yesterday's lady.

Well see in 2 weeks they are both entered in the 5000 at preclassic
Is Blankenship the best 1500 guy in the US right now? Top 3 with Centro and Leo? He had a strong finish in the 1500 despite getting a bit boxed in with ~100 to go.
a combo. the two are not mutually exclusive.
Almaz Ayana with a 14:14, 26 seconds ahead of second place! Incredible. If it was windy (the sprint readings weren't high), that indicates a world record was in the offing on a calm day. At Pre with Genzebe, if the conditions are very good, we should see sub 14:10. Ayana ran 9:22 steeple in 2010 but 14:25 5000m in 2013 and 14:29 last year (only a 32+ 10k in her past), and she ran 8:25.

Why would we see a sub 14:10 at Pre? When fast people get in a race together, it usually turns into a jogfest, no?
Also, is the 5000 in the heat of the day like it usually is? Not usually conducive to world record distance times.
However she has a good chance at lapping Jordan Hasay
Times in the 14:30 range are not unheard of after years of training but WTH is going on with the Ethiopian women dropping random 14:1x performances? Are we to believe this record is soft?
She also lapped one Chinese runner TWICE! Has this ever been done before in a DL race? Every lap she just went quicker - qualitex!
I hope this story ends well
she reminded me of that other runner selsouli on that last lap
unbelievably strong
These top 5000m times are not passing the sniff test for me. T. Dibaba dropped one crazy WR time in 2008, not at all representative of her 5000m performances before or after. Defar got faster and faster until her 14:12 in 2008, and then suddenly she became a 14:30 runner again. Are they sandbagging now or did something change after 2008? Well, there was that biopassport thing...
Jordan Hasay must be the most popular runner on the circuit. She gets to meet the leaders several times during a race.
Note to Ventolin
Ayana, not Asbel, produced something very, very special ... close, but no cigar.
I'm curious why the calculator didn't predict this?
Video of women's 5k?

Probably because you don't understand how it works. You are advertising your ignorance and stupidity when you say things like this.

In completely and totally unrelated news The other thread about suspicious deletions seems to have been deleted!
Almaz Ayana was indeed on fire today. Guess what her name means in Amharic? Diamond. :-)
Most obscure letsrun post of the year

What is the deal with the apathetic race winners? Kirani looked pissed off. Kiplagat and Sum didn't seem to give a shit. Even Ayana who nearly broke a world record acted like she was bored and would rather be home watching TV.
