I can't imagine that Fisher's focus will be getting the sub 4. It's the Dream Mile so he will be focused on racing.

After watching GF run for 5 years I'd say he cares way more about the win than going sub 4:00. Given the choice between running sub 4 and losing or winning and not breaking 4:00 I am certain he'd take the win...

At 18 years, 23 days, I was finishing my 1st quarter of college. lol Not sure the age thing is that big a deal between these two guys.
Fisher's upside is the fact he was putting as much energy into soccer as running, maybe more. Maton has the capability to run under 1:50 though, Fisher will never break 1:51 in HS.
This race is like Bannister/Landy in '54. I'm looking forward to it and will say I think Fisher will win.
What about Austin Tomagno? Or Brannigan? 2 years ago, wasn't there another freshman besides Tomagno that also ran 4:09? Where is this guy now?

The comparisons are close enough, but I think Fisher looks a little more like LLandy. Should be a good field regardless of sub-4. Honestly, it'd be nice if the race was just at the Brooks PR meet in Seattle (Renton actually) since the weather is cooler than New York.
My vote is for Maton. Sure, he's been chasing records but he's +1 on the genetics side especially, now that his Olympian mom is coaching him instead of those jackasrse coaches at Summit.
Crazy to think sub-4 was a big deal for guys that were 25+ years old and really not that big of a deal for high school seniors/freshman in college.
Also, does anyone know if Fisher is a U.S. citizen? I know he was born in Candy Land or whatever...

He is a U.S. citizen. His mother is American and has has grown up here. His father is Canadian.

I completely agree. Fisher, similar to Cheserek, is a tactical runner. He's out for the win and has not been aimed at time marks. Even as the favorite I do not envision him destroying the #2 runner. He would sit and kick.
The only remaining question is if he decides this particular mark, which definitely noteworthy for history, is something special and he wants to add it to his resume. I'm skeptical since this is inconsistent, but in that case narrow case I believe he could separate and punish the field. I say 4:01.5.

This makes me feel old but when I saw "GF" in your post I immediately thought you were talking about German Fernandez. Speaking of age, both Maton and Fisher would have been in 5th grade during Fernandez's SR year.

I think that Tamagno will be in the mix more than most think. This is another fast year for the 1500/1600/mile and he's being overlooked with a 3:46 which was his season opener at that distance. He's been laying low for a bit but I'm sure he has a sub-4 attempt on deck. That's when everyone will come out and say that they knew he could do it. A bunch of fan boys are on this site.
On another note, there's no way 5 guys will dip under 4 at the Dream Mile. My guess is the winning time will be 4:01-4:02 at best.
Maton's age coupled with his not competing for a HS team mean he is not a sub 4 HS miler. That notion is ridiculous.
