The problem with the bet is the advanced notice issue. I would have put something like 14 business days given and location of race including start/finish locations.

You can run but you cannot hide...or is that you can hide but you cannot run.Mike's the original dope.

His reputation is growing so hopefully most of them will flag his name as a potential cheat. Should enhance Barb McKeever's (McKeever Event Management, LLC, MEMRACING) resume too...as someone NOT to manage your event.

Rossi really is every race directors worst nightmare. Can you imagine putting together a local turkey trot and days after now being thrust into the national spotlight because hometown cheater Mike Rossi decided to enter your race. How many timing companies can there be in the PA/NJ area within an hour of Rossi they really should all know about this guy ahead of time before they become the next victim.

Agreed. This guy obviously cheated and Barb McKeever either didn't care or she was too weak to do the right thing. Either way - do not race in a McKeever Event ever.

Too many posts to catch up on, but entertaining. His plan to cheat has been obvious from the start, and very poorly executed. Slapstick comedy at every step along the way. He's the three stooges of running all rolled into one. But after this weekend's humiliation, there is just no way I can see that he's going to give up. He keeps digging himself into a deeper and deeper hole, and his solution is to dig faster. It should get even worse as there is less time to plan a race to cheat at, just four more weekends - and it's going to be even more disgraceful than what's already occurred. December is filled with memorial/charity runs and Santa shuffles. Cheating at a Turkey Trot is terrible enough already, but what kind of guy cheats at a Santa shuffle? Is there any limit to just how low he's willing to go in this futile attempt?
I have to say - it's all a very good lesson for everyone else. To simply not cheat in the first place, but even more than that, how much easier does an apology look now compared to allowing a lie to become your life? Own your mistakes and move on, or instead let your mistakes take over who you are so you become the worst of you, not the best.
Maybe he just needs to read a little Dickens - ‘Good Spirit,’ he pursued, as down upon the ground he fell before it:’ Your nature intercedes for me, and pities me. Assure me that I yet may change these shadows you have shown me, by an altered life.’
"guy in the black cap and black shirt" is in Rossi's twitter pic, right where you'd expect him to be (as is fella in black hat/green top). Half an inch to the left of the fella in white headband/orange top is the man in black, his black hat looks like it's got white writing or something on the back.
Rossi took the twitter pic then slunk in to the back like the snake his is, started way back using "shoe malfunction" excuse. Using his local knowledge he cut the course somewhere , but like Via he f---ed up for whatever reason with his timing and been exposed by the LR sleuths for not allowing for gun/chip times, having to pass 667 runners/joggers/walkers to get that chip time, been exposed again as a cheat. FFS he would have had to have run the last 4k at what would have been a crazy fast pace for him after weaving through all those joggers/walkers for the first kilometer, perhaps someone can do an educated estimate. As usual Rossi didn't think it through and account for the LR sleuths.
Also, the turned ankle probably did happen but is irrelevant to this cheating effort as he himself wrote above his twitter photo "Turned ankle after race. Ugh".
There are few more noble or freeing things to do than to be honest with oneself about his/her greatest shortcomings. A good therapist will pave the way for brutal honesty, first with oneself, and then with others that are affected by who we really are. My wish for Mike is that he seek help from someone qualified to help him walk through this situation.
Mike is the biggest loser here. I don't mean that in a derogatory way. Just that he his hurting himself more than anyone in this whole fiasco.
He is the one living with the anxiety of being caught, the highs and lows of attention and dopamine (aka, the rush and the fallout) that come with getting away with something temporarily until he tries it again. As soon as the rush dissipates, he will do it again. And again.
It appears that he is in an addictive cycle that he probably won't be able to stop without professional help, and it's truly sad.
I was a liar and a cheat for a long time (not at the sport of running, but in other ways), and I have had no more peace that coming clean with the people around me. Living a steady life is much more satisfying than ups and downs of living in lies and secrecy.
Mike, if you're reading this, please do yourself a favor man. You can seize this moment to make a pivotal change in your life, and it will be the most rewarding action you will have ever taken. Much greater than any paycheck or challenge can bring. It will pay dividends forever.
Getting this monkey off of your back will set you free, whether you own up to cheating or you can prove that you did not cheat.
I hope you choose to be known. It's one of the scariest, life changing decisions, but will provide opportunities for fulfillment that are not otherwise possible.
Best to you.
Any normal human being who was called out for cheating and was NOT guilty would go out of their way to make sure they cleared their name.
Given a 3:11:45 marathoner would NOT have to struggle to run sub 20, say when and where you'll make your attempt and would have have someone well known get it on camera.
$10,000 and a false accusation, you bet I'd make sure it was legit as hell. It should be no more than a tempo run for such a runner, even one not at 100%.
Everything Mike does is not what a falsely accused person would do. But Mike knows best just google him.

Hard to spot on the second photo but I see what you mean. It's probably the same guy. In the novelrunner blog photos you can't see any runners that were standing where Mike took his photo. We probably would have seen them go by in the next couple of photo sequences. He raised his phone above his head to take that photo and then either stepped onto the curb to let the runners go by or made his way to start from the back. Either way, it's not something a runner who is on the brink of breaking 20min and collecting $10k would do. Smells like $hit to me for sure.

Look in the picture on the blog of the start, where they are just beginning to run.
https://novelrunner.wordpress.com/2015/11/28/thanksgiving-food-and-haddon-township-turkey-trot-5k-race-recap-2102/Next to the guy in the hat is a tall guy graying hair and beard with blue shirt.
Now look at the pic rossi took.
http://triathleteguru.blogspot.com.au/2015/11/did-race-cheat-michael-rossi-attempt-to.htmlDirectly in the center of the photo you can see a guy with an orange shirt and white headband. Directly in front of him is the guy in the blue shirt w/ beard. To his left there is a guy in gray with grey hat. Same as in the other photo. The location relative to the guy in neon standing on the curb matches also.
This reasoning has been brought up again and again and Mike will pay no heed whatsoever to it. Rosie Ruiz and Lip Litton and Mike Rossi, the cheating three-in-one will never admit to their lies. His BS letter the the principal gained him a lot of genuine hero worship and there is no going back. His mind is not right, he lacks the ability to do the right thing. He will attack you though. When he comes back on twitter go after him and see. You'll see why he is one disgusting individual. The bridge has been burned.
He doesn't just read this thread, in his own words he "hangs on to every word". We caught him with his pants down after a recent 5k. I suggested he ran a certain time on a post and immediately he tweeted a direct response to my post. He is completely obsessed with managing the fallout. Could you imagine living like that?

Mikey already learned from Kip Litton's 'Cheating at Running for Dummies' and did the late passing of the starting line. What's next? Mike running 19:33 in West Wyoming Santa Shuffle 5k?

I got 1st place in that race a couple years back. The support along the course was... lacking.
Do we really want Mike to dream the impossible dream and fess up? I know it would be best for him, but the entertainment value for us truly has earned the title of "epic" here. I'm conflicted but think Mike will not disappoint us by doing the right thing.

Classic foot in mouth injury. Karma. Wimp + Cheater + Liar + Tween
Mike woke up early on a Saturday morning after a gig the previous night just to drive to New Jersey and cheat at a turkey trot to prove he ran a marathon he didn't actually run in a time he is physically incapable of running so he could collect $10,000 he doesn't deserve. He then went home and made a further fool of himself on Twitter. He has had plenty of opportunities since he started his car Saturday morning til now to have a moment of clarity. If he hasn't yet, he probably never will.
