It's the over used slow motion train wreck comparison . I for one can't wait to see him go off the rails . Add to that the veiled death threats the obvious ill conceived words about ken's son along with all of the other garbage he has spewed should give you reason enough to understand why we stay here .
I check in every now and again - mostly don't post (and I won't be making fun of him any more). However, I spend way more time reading other threads than this. For me, the biggest draw was that I was curious to see if he would put in the effort and even try to make the times. I don't think he can, but, for that much money and to protect his lie, I really thought he'd at least try. I think most people would have been training their a$$ off. (Perhaps the very reason he cheated is the same reason he's not trying - the one thing he's honest with himself about is his inability to run fast enough.)
Really the only thing that I think this thread is "good" for any more is that I believe that it creates enough of a public spotlight on him that it does prevent him from entering races in order to avoid subjecting himself to the backlash when he runs times that show he could not have run a 3:11 marathon. I think he did try to hide his name and the race for the 5k run as he did want to avoid people being able to know the truth and spoil his bragging. It's a much better story when you only hear he got first in his age group. The truth was embarrassing, made worse that he would brag about such a result. I think if this thread wasn't going, he would have run NY just so he could tell everyone that he ran NY, but his ego couldn't handle that his results will just continue to prove he's a liar and a cheat. Also, without the public scrutiny, I think there is a real possibility that he'd try to find another run he could cheat at to "prove" he can run a 3:11 marathon - not to real runners, but to his family and friends (such as they are). He can't do that with people watching his run times now. If he even went to do some small unknown marathon without timing mats, everyone would instantly know why he would chose such a race.
So, at least in some respects, this thread is likely keeping him honest; well, more specifically, keeping him from being dishonest, or at least not as dishonest as he'd like to be.
