9:15.50!!!!! World Record for USA. Tremendous race. First close race in a distance race. Rotich went out suicidal but held on as well as anyone could.
Tremendous job for USA
Rotich went out so hard.
Papa New Guinea finishes 10:50. Crowd goes nuts.
That race made my night.
who are all these B-squad Kenyans, anyway? Where are their top athletes, don't they want to win?
This was an incredible race.
Kenya needs to hire a coach. That was one of the worst tactical races I've ever seen. If Kenya runs that race properly, they win.
Interesting. They just showed a slow mo replay of when Blankenship and Rotich got he stick. They looked at each other and Blankenship gestured to Rotich "you take the lead". Boy did he, running 26 and 52.
An inexperienced 1500 guy should have sat and kicked. Made it a much more interesting race however!!!
That was a world record. Beat the Kenyan record set at Penn Relays in 2006 of 9:15.56.
The U.S. squad ran 9:15.51. Incredible performance.

They win merely by sending Kiprop, Kiplagat or Kwemoi as anchor.
Blankenship almost celebrated a bit too early, would've cost his team 50K haha.
Props to Blankenship for telling Cheruiyot to take the lead, which led to him going out suicidal.
Kenyans look like someone told them their mother just died on the medal stand.
holy shit merber is bawling his eyes out
its adorable
man im a massive fan great to see him with an international medal
For me, this meet has been a snore-fest….until now! That DMR was supremely entertaining.
Splits for the kenyan anchor..... gotta be kidding me
51.96
58.65
62.19
59.95
3:52.75
I'll there's a number of national athletic associations that feel the same way looking at the $50000 checks the US is taking home this meet.

How fast would a team of Kwemoi Rudisha Kiprop Kiplagat go?? Do you put Rudisha on the 4 so Kip can run the 8? Or stick in a random Kenyan? Do they break 9???

There was a second there where I thought he might be able to beat Blankenship. Now THAT would have been incredible.
Rotich ran like a warrior stud, really impressed!

The other countries only have themselves to blame. Everyone knows the relay records are soft compared to the individual marks. The IAAF has put $1.4 million in prize money into this meet. I don't get why more countries haven't taken advantage. There were only 6 teams in that DMR and the IAAF gives prize money to the top 8.

no, I just mean put Kwemoi, Kiprop or Kiplagat in the 1600, get them the stick in decent shape, and it's game over. They're not using their best runners. It's almost like they don't want to win.
