WTF is a full mile?
Yes.
It's a mile that's not less than a mile.
Young people have been taught that 4x400m laps = 1 mile.
A full mile = 1609m
A pretend mile = 1600m

His mom was mediocre 800 meter runner, 2:11?.
2:11 HS for a girl is excellent. In fact, at most U.S. high schools that would be a good boy's time.
Except she ran 2:11? in college, not high school!

And around 2:20-2:25 as a 50 year old. She has some talent, and Drew got some good genes.
So next year do you see a sub 4:00? Certainly if he doesn't get it this year and does not get severely injured next year he will be able to run 3:5x.
Given how he has improved, although I do not know how he is trained it appears that he will be able to continually improve. A nice slow progression to the top. Whether or not he breaks 4:00 it will certainly turn out to be a great race (nationals or dream).

His mom uses Tinman's principles. And Tinman (Tom Schwartz) helps her out when she asks for guidance. Tinman's training, as will be known to longtimers on lrc, is very conservative when it comes to quality. And as far as I've read he doesn't run high mileage either.
His mom often shares her coaching on Tinman's site: therunzone.com.
Barring injury, freak accidents, illness, etc it would seem very possible he would be able to do this next year. I don't think he or his parents will sacrifice the long term conservative plan just to chase 4:00, though.
That is absolutely great to hear, I do have some knowledge on Tinman and his various posts here. He is definitely quite the skilled coach. I am glad to hear his potential will not be wasted!
After reading the threads his mom posts on therunzone.com it confirms that running is a sport of haves and have nots. The kid started running as an 8th grader, and now on the same training I did as a high schooler (I was coached by Tinman) he runs two minutes faster over 5k.
No good runner is coached by some lacky called tinman.
I had just started to read some of his mother's posts on therunzone.com and was able to find that they are not focusing on a sub 4:00.

In a conversation with Tinman she says he wants to run near 4:00 but his primary focus is the longer stuff. Tinman goes on to confirm this and reiterate he should work on his endurance at the time but says it would make sense to get faster.
Looks like most likely no sub 4:00 unless he is truly pushed in something like the dream mile.
Tinman has fans, must be good. Many know who he is and he is reliable. I have never met or talked to him.
Hunter is a gifted guy who obviously has a huge engine.
he will wind up running faster than Ritz, ever did at a mile or two miles.P lus other than Fisher he would win most every Xc race he ever runs.
I would say that is good enough. He might run the all time stuff, looks like his underside is enough to maybe run 8:30's for two miles as a Junior...surely as a HS junior he can run, may not, but can run 4:04 mile?
If anyone has actually watched a Hunter, Fisher , Wetzel(dmr win indoors), race, for example or Maton I guess, you would see a will to win.
Wetzel has sub 1:50 already mapped, he will be perfect in Nova scheme.
Can run good cross, has run 3:48 and 1:49 perfect for what they do.
Fisher probably better than by a bit than McGorty was, who was very very good a great add to Stanford. If folks think Mc Gorty was and is good, Fisher is a better version.
Better than Hall, better than Don Sage who was great.
Think about that, this kid is good. I have zero vested interest in this opinion.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these

Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
