Are filthy casuals ruining running? I don't even try and explain to non runners what I do for training anymore because your average person appreciates a 6 min mile the same way they appreciate a 4 minute mile ....not much at all....

Times are freaky, our sport, Track, has fallen in popularity further than ever before.

However, high school and college track have never been better.

Some "hobby joggers," road racer charity marathon road race "enthusiast" have become as much "all about the gear" as yoga freakazoids, lulmon, mon...

I respect the runner with the old no name grey sweatshirt and sweats, etc.

I'm surprised he didn't include cyclists, certainly they are hated in this forum.

Runners who inflate the importance of their running (especially on social media) make everyone else hate us. Case in point:

I love running, but there is way too much garbage on Facebook about the importance of running. Too many inspirational posts, "share if you're running a race this weekend!", etc. This is the legacy of George Sheehan's writing, all variations on the "running is a noble profession" theme. Apparently, signing up for a 5K and finishing in 30 minutes is the equivalent of climbing Everest or curing cancer.

Now I have to go for my run, but that's all I'm going to say about it. ;)

Discussing running in any way shape or form with non runners is futile.Every distance from 5km up to marathon is called a marathon by the non running public.Also they have no concept of time.One asked me off the cuff what my marathon time was.I replied 2hrs 12 min.She said jeez that was slow,my friend did it in 1hr 51min.i presume the distance was half marathon.I just nodded and kept going.Moral of the story never discuss running with non runners if possible.

I saw a few people on my Facebook feed linking to this article and going off on a rant. Mostly they were people who aren't very good at running, but talk a lot about running, have all the latest gear (that they read in Runner's World is MUST HAVE GEAR) and don't actually know a thing about elite runners. Narcissistic runners are the only ones offended by an article about the narcissistic stereotype of runners; shocking.

Runners in general are annoying and with social media and the boom of running as fitness brings it up a few notches. It's not a run unless you post it on social media, even better if you have the time/distance app, and insta shot mid run.
