He gave it a good shot. I like his aggressiveness. No sense just trying to time trial a good time.

He is sinking to new lows.
It's only a matter of time till we hear the leg turnover stories.
Rawson: I don't mean to belabor the point but the length of their legs is quite special. Were any of these guys recruited by the NBA?
My boy Derek Yorek, 17:56 2nd 5k after leading the first mile. Gonna be a long day for him.
Haven't got the 7 mile split yet, but they must have slowed down because everyone is bunched up again and Teg caught back up. Teg, Ritz, Meb, Arciniaga all in there iwth a pack of about 15ish (just eye balling).
Luckily the live stream I found has French commentary. Not that it's very useful to me but it's not annoying.
Rawson already mentioned leg turnover. He knew Tola's pace by looking at his legs
Teg right back in the pack. Gunning for the win?
He already mentioned that, within the first mile of the race.
@rojo - thanks, keep the 1k times/pace coming !
Makau still not at 10k, has he already dropped out ?
Weather is perfect, for now. 45F, very little wind, overcast. Looking at Newton and Boston current weather, the headwind is going to pick up to 10-15 mph.

Desi is going to fade. Why lead so early?
My guess is she didn't want someone running 5:20s and breaking up the pack. She always has a great last 10K, so perhaps this is an attempt to keep the pack intact so she can really race with the leaders at the end.
Women’s race splits
Mile 1: 5:38 (Nemec leads large pack)
Mile 2: 5:28 (11:06)
Mile 3: 5:19 (16:25) (Deba took the lead at 4k, drops three women, pack stringing out with Desi a few meters off the back)
5K: 16:57 (2:23:03 pace)
Mile 4: 5:23 (21:48) Linden in the lead. 11 women in the lead group
Mile 5: 5:46 (27:34) Deba leading, still group of 11
Mile 6: 5:38 (33:12)
10K: 34:23 (17:26 5K) 2:25:02 pace, Duliba leading pack of 12
Mile 7: 5:32 (38:44)
Mile 8: 5:38 (44:22) Linden to the front again
Mile 9: 5:40 (50:02)
15K: 17:25 (51:48)
Mile 10: 5:35 (55:37)
Mile 11: 5:32 (1:01:06)
Did Ryan Hall drop yet?
7th mile was slower, 5:05.
Patrick Makau has dropped out, they've just announced in the media room. Just after 5K.

Where is RITZ? Any update on Nate Jenkins?
Hall dropped earlier. Around 2012.

He's still at the church by the finish line.

Mile 11 5:36, sorry. Hearing different things from different people.
That guy running out front really got the men going the first few miles. However the first part of Boston is way downhill so 2:04 pace at that point isn't really 2:04 pace.
Gebre Gebre shaking things up.
