Patrick Makau at the 2015 Boston Marathon = Ryan Hall at the 2015 LA Marathon.
That second wave is a motley crew.
Can the actual 1k splits be seen somewhere or do we have to wait for the 5k times on the racers' tracking ?
Looks like the pack reeled in Tola.
The triple split screen is a wonderful addition. Elite women. Elite men. Fanny packs.
Teg may be slipping off the back. Arciniaga still there, but he doesn't exactly look relaxed. Then again, neither does Tsegay. Dude looks like he's being raked with hot coals. But maybe that's just his race face.
Women’s race splits
Mile 1: 5:38 (Nemec leads large pack)
Mile 2: 5:28 (11:06)
Mile 3: 5:19 (16:25) (Deba took the lead at 4k, drops three women, pack stringing out with Desi a few meters off the back)
5K: 16:57 (2:23:03 pace)
Mile 4: 5:23 (21:48) Linden in the lead. 11 women in the lead group
Mile 5: 5:46 (27:34) Deba leading, still group of 11
Mile 6: 5:38 (33:12)
10K: 34:23 (17:26 5K) 2:25:02 pace, Duliba leading pack of 12
Mile 7: 5:32 (38:44)
Mile 8: 5:38 (44:22) Linden to the front again
Mile 9: 5:40 (50:02)
15K: 51:48 (17:25 5K), 2:25:41 pace
Still 12 women in lead pack

We get mile by mile splits here in the media room and are posting them.
The thing that is surprising right now is Nick Arciniaga. The boy is going for it. Will he pay for it later?
They are on 2:04:48 pace at 5 miles.
Memo to Larry Rawson, who just said eeryone is there, not true. In the first 5 miles, we've lost the FORMER WORD RECORD HOLDER. That's significant.
Attrition on men's side will be high, they are on 2:04 pace, doesn't bode well for Americans. Yorek at 16:18 through 5K

in european road races they often show the mile mark on the clock on the screen along with the time, so any time you want you can calculate what pace they are on. No clue why they don't do that in the US.
Or better -just have a 'predicted time' graphic all the time.
I can't watch from where I am. What's the weather like? Is that keeping the pack together?
All I saw was the name Larry Rawson and I am glad that I'm not watching the TV broadcast.

Linden still leading, they're on 2:26 pace
Teg way off the pack now, but Ritz and Arciniaga still hanging in there. Tsegay leading.
28:39 at 6 miles (2:05:11 marathon pace)
What the heck is Matt Teg (2:12 marathoner) doing running 2:04 pace for the first 10K? Does he really think he can run his best race running that much faster than he is capable of?
Also, Half-marathon record holder Tadese has that herky-jerky running style. Maybe he can do that for a half but I think he expends too much extra energy over 26 miles.
The initial AAA Championships (England) in 1880 included a ten mile race on the track. No one ran three miles then, the AAA distances were one, four, and ten miles so I don't know where Larry got his maximum of three miles historical faction.
Desi is going to fade. Why lead so early?

He is sinking to new lows.
It's only a matter of time till we hear the leg turnover stories.

The women are together because they are running slow(er). Apparently there is wind at random parts of the course but not all.
The men are just running fast. The temp is very mild so a fast time is possible. No rain at this point.
Des Linden: "The entire sport" has changed since she first started running Boston.
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
Ryan Eiler, 3rd American man at Boston, almost out of nowhere
Matt Choi was drinking beer halfway through the Boston Marathon
