Pretty sure she's an American that runs for Croatia, unless I'm thinking of someone else.

Desi breaking the win now by taking the lead. Will American women ever learn?
Desi is clearly trying to run 2:25 pace for 20 miles and then see what happens. She's looking at her watch all the time - so she doesn't care if she is front or back if she is on pace.
Shalane is just hanging on the back making no decisions either.
Remember that fascinating study - that you can use up your will power, so best not to make any decisions as long as you can? Shalane and desi are doing that - making no decisions.
I think I heard the producers screaming at them to stop talking about drugs.
Is it just me or is the commentary really sh!#t...How about some f!#$ splits mfkr???
Women’s race splits
Mile 1: 5:38 (Nemec leads large pack)
Mile 2: 5:28 (11:06)
Mile 3: 5:19 (16:25) (Deba took the lead at 4k, drops three women, pack stringing out with Desi a few meters off the back)
5K: 16:57 (2:23:03 pace)
Mile 4: 5:23 (21:48) Linden in the lead. 11 women in the lead group
Mile 5: 5:46 (27:34) Deba leading, still group of 11
Mile 6: 5:38 (33:12)
10K: 34:23 (17:26 5K) 2:25:02 pace, Duliba leading pack of 12
Mile 7: 5:32 (38:44)
Mile 8: 5:38 (44:22) Linden to the front again
First big casualty in the men's race: Patrick Makau. Came through 5K in 15:25 (over 40 seconds back of leaders. Arciniaga/Meb still with leaders, Ritz and Teg fighting to get back to lead pack.
Pretty sure Makau is running CLEAN these days. What a difference.
Have Ritz and Teg been dropped ALREADY?
Scratch what I just said, Teg and Ritz caught the pack, but Tola has broken away from everyone else on his own now.
That study sounds interesting. Could you post a link?
Based on my totally unscientific subjective review of their stride and facial expressions, I would rank the Americans (1) Des, (2) Craggs, (3) Shalane.

No, they are back in the pack. There was probably a minor surge in pace that they didn't go with.
Tola breaking away 20 minutes in!

Letting a guy like Tola go for it is not a good idea.

Where's Cabadass? Taking it easy now to play mop up later?
Cabada and Makau were in the 2nd group at 5k. It SHOCKS ME THAT MAKAU WOULD RUN THE FIRST 5K IN 15:14. What the hell? I'd ask if he missed the start but Jonathan Gault saw him on the start.

Makau was dropped shortly after mile one. He looked like he was jogging and you could barely see his white shirt before they hit mile 2. No way he makes it to 15K.

Yes...its unbelievable...not saying anything about runners or race. Cycling commentary is better than this. I am seriously dumbfounded by the lack of actual race commentary.

The over abundance of stimuli that cause us to use our willpower is the problem. What’s interesting is that recent research has found that willpower fatigues, similar to how our muscles fatigue. If we continually have to use our willpower to resist temptation, eventually we give in. In the article, the common example of having a stressful day at work and then coming home and forgoing your usual exercise, you plop down on the couch and eat some junk food.

Linden is still leading. She clearly doesn't want the pace to be too fast at the front.
Shalane is chillin at the back. I predict a podium finish for her.
