Do you really think that age maters so much? I feel like it doesn't take too much away from the performance, the big difference in my eyes is that it was done in a pro/college race. Once you get to college everyone is training hard and as long as you're not starting school at like past 20 I think its a non-issue.
Yes I do. With males in their teens half a year even makes a difference due to a variety of physiological reasons IMO. Have a look at international junior events in the distances and you may be convinced. Or just think back to your HS years about the kid that was a year older and bigger, stronger, faster.
Not taking anything away from Maton's performance - his time was incredibly fast and he has been in the top ranks last year and again this year. We, as fans, are very lucky to have the potential for a few HS athletes to break the magic four minute barrier - which always proves to be easier said than done.
Pre May be out of the question, since it falls on the same weekend as MI State Champs and last I heard Grant Fisher is running for his HS team.
In reply to an earlier post about German Fernandez, his age and times - truly amazing double at 17 in such a short time span and then for him to run 3:55 at 18 as a freshmen is remarkable. The initials GF are very special in HS running.
