Better to have 20k people in a 20k stadium than what Russia had at many events...5k people in a 75k stadium. I am excited that if the marathon is run early in morning there could be a good race. Most summer sites end up incredibly tactical because of the heat.
Maybe it does take a little longer than an hour to drive from Eugene to Portland, but I remember it was an easy, short drive on Interstate 5, with hardly any traffic. I stayed in an Executive Suites hotel at the South end of Portland, and I swear it wasn't but an hour drive each day.
Lot's of challenges for Eugene to overcome. I don't know if that little stadium can hold enough people for a meet like the world champs. That's a lot of athletes, families and fans coming from all over the world to little ol Eugene. Maybe temporary housing? Could residents open up their houses and rent them out for this event? I'm curious to see how they solve this problem. Whatever they do, it's going to cost a lot of money to renovate that stadium and come up with housing. Of course, money has never been a problem for Nike..
