According to Fox Soccer, Arsenal FC midfielder Hector Bellerin's 40 meter time would place him two meters ahead of Bolt during a 100m dash.

No its not possible, all team sport athletes are completely ignorant about electronic timing. They like to brag about how fast they are but are too chickenshit to get an actual electronic time to compare to the likes of Bolt. They are millionaires but would never dare buy a cheap timing system like a freelap and video themselves running a super fast time to back up their trash talk. Until this happens all professional football, soccer, basketball players who think they are faster then Bolt are full of shit.

Very well formulated.
While it's unlikely that Bellerin is one of them, there are people who can beat Usain Bolt over 40 meters. Bolt stands out because of his top end speed, not because of his acceleration.
to clarify an answer from above that seemed to be on the right track:
its my understanding that soccer clubs (in general) use electronic timing systems. what this means is the time wouldnt start running until the player had passed the first sensor and then it would stop as soon as the player passes the next sensor. Its not as if the player would have a running start for these sort of records but it takes reaction time out of it. Very similar to what the NFL does for the 40 yard dash in the combine (actually, the exact same). Yes Bellerin is fast, but not that fast.
I think you're discounting the impact of starting the clock at the gun (as in a track race) vs. starting the clock when the athlete starts (as in a 40m for soccer or football).

Not sure about people beating Bolt over 40m.
In his world record run he lead every 20m interval.
At 40m he was .06 ahead of the entire field.
His 60m split was 6.31. The indoor 60m record is 6.39.
http://sportsscientists.com/2009/08/analysis-of-bolts-9-58-wr/A 40m dash is pointless. What next, a 10m dash extrapolated to predict a marathon WR?

I like that!

The 40m is used to measure speed/acceleration over a short distance for sports where speed/acceleration over a short distance is important. How is that analogous to using a 10m dash to predict a marathon time?

Fair point. According to this (
http://speedendurance.com/2013/04/09/fastest-10-meter-splits/), Maurice Greene's 2001 world record had the same split through 40 m (4.64). For what it's worth, before posting the above, I looked at the 2012 London final video and Bolt was about 5th at 40 m and then separates from the field over the second half. I'd still contend that's what sets Bolt apart from other sprinters.
No.
Most of the soccer players these days are rather SKINNY (except for Christiano Ronaldo with his great V-shaped body). They would have no chance against someone as BUFF/SHREDDED as Usain Bolt.
Bolt has been lifting hard this past winter and it shows. No way a soccer player could challenge him.

Great Britain's world and European indoor 60m champion Richard Kilty is willing to BET £30,000 he would beat Arsenal pair Hector Bellerin and Theo Walcott in a sprint race.
"Media CLAIMING Hector Bellerin can run 4.42 seconds over 40m. Absolutely no way. Are these journalists complete morons!," says Kilty.
"I will put £30,000 on the line to race Hector Bellerin & Theo Walcott any sprint distance, any time, any place, anywhere.
"The race will be over very quick. So if they put their money down I will gladly show everyone they cannot sprint as fast as the media CLAIM."
Source BBC website. Thing is £30,000 is pocket change for Walcott & Bellerin!
Bolt's measure includes the acceleration phase, whereas the soccer player's meausures don't include that. Bolt's 40 meter from 30-70 would be a lot quicker...
Yes, Bolt's finish does separate him from the others.
That's why it's scary that he can start so well.

Show me a runner who has better 40 times and less top end speed than Bolt?
You are confusing top end speed with speed endurance. Two different things.
I agree that the timing methods between sprinters and soccer players' fitness tests are probably different and can't be accurately compared to one another. But if Bellerin raced Bolt in the 400m dash or the 800....

Exactly, but for Kilty a quick. slightly over 4 second payday would be substantial. He would CRUSH both of them and the troll like soccer writers would be forced to stop wiring this nonsense.
