No. Drayton and Cam Levins are the 2 best Canadian runners of all time. The record won't go down til Levins moves up.
Reid's best days are behind him now. The injuries have taken their toll. I'd expect a 2:13ish effort, or more likely, a DNF. Hope I'm wrong.
I am a very big Levins fan. He is a great kid and an excellent athlete, but show some respect for Bairu who holds the most Canadian Cross Country Championships at seven, finished 13th at Worlds (or around there) and still holds the Canadian 10,000m record.
Bairu is better for now. Levins very well may be better shortly.
Also, Kevin Sullivan trumps them all. His prowess in the mile and 1500m is better.
What happens to Drayton's status if Gillis or Coolsaet or Wykes or Ahmed or Levins take down his marathon record? Even by a second? Does that kill his status as Canada's number one?
2:11.23 for Reid coolsaet. Good effort but not good enough
But he most likely qualified for the Rio Olympic Marathon as a consolation prize. Not bad for a 35yr old.
This is superb running. Yes, he is getting older, but if I recall that is 4 marathons between 2;10:55- and 2:11:24. Amazing. Bet you Americans had a guy who could do that (minus Meb),...and it is almost guaranteed he will be heading to Rio with this time, as the old standard was 2:11:29 and if anything it will be slightly easier. Congrats Coolsie.
Ritz: 2:10:00; 2:09:55; 2:09:45; 2:07:47.

Have you seen Cam run? He will have to change his stride quite a bit to become an efficient marathon runner. His gait is ideal for 5000 & 10,000, but not nearly efficient enough for the marathon, too much bounce & too much on his toes. Same as Mo Ahmed, neither has a stride conducive to the marathon.
Mo Ahmed looks very much like Mo Farah when he runs, look what happened to Farah in the Marathon- His lack of efficiency destroyed him over the last 10km, I would predict the same would happen to Mo and Cam.
You obviously know nothing about Canadian distance running. Once Drayton showed up Buniak basically stopped competing. He must have been hella scared to get his @ss whipped because his name just stopped appearing in the results once Drayton started winning. Chicken.

I think Peter Buniak was better than jerome Drayton.
The 40 year old mens canadian marathon record will still only be 39 years old this fall. The 40 year old record has been 40 even when it was 37. When the canadian record turns 41 it will be called a 50 year old record set by jerome drayton.

It's hard to believe the Canadian record has stood since 1975. Might it fall this weekend?

Man...nickle'd and dime'd in the last three 5k segments. Just wasn't in the cards today - pacing early was perfect.

According to an article on iaaf one of the womans top finishers (I believe it was duchane) indicated there was a strong headwind for the last several kilometer. If reid was a bit more aerodynamic in his running he may have got the record
Look at the first 3 guys--all bona fide sub-2:06 dudes,..and ran slower...the winner said the wind was very strong. Reid ran awesome, particularity under those conditions. Solid run.
Too bad about the record BUT
Do you think he got the qualifier?
Just want to make comment. Jerome drayton turned 70 on January 10th of this year. He was born in 1945. he's 70!! and his record is 39 years old.
He must be laughing at reid coolsaet

No! Jerome (Peter Buniak) Drayton will be remembered for a long time as one of Canada's premier marathoners.
