No, you guys are missing the point entirely. You sit on your throne of supposed wisdom and say "mission accomplished." Soon your university's team will be cut and you'll whine about it and try and start some desperate crowdfunding effort when you could have saved it long before. So when that happens, feel free to crawl back onto your throne and yell "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!" all you want.
This real issue is the following:
1. They should have requested to be in the second heat if they were there for the sole purpose of jogging to get a mark. They would have had more company in the second heat and not made the U. of Oregon look as bad.
2. There is NO problem with a coach making a tactical decision to have his athletes cruise to a qualification mark. This issue is they've done a disservice to the sport and the integrity of the Stanford Invite by pulling their little stunt on a stage like this. There are plenty of opportunities elsewhere to just jog one.
3. The USTFCCCA, and especially the self-serving coaches, need to step it up and require meets during the season which matter! How on Earth do we expect any casual fan to attach themselves to the sport if THIS is what they get!? I paid to get into that meet but instead had to see a group of Ducks jogging in the back, two of which were names that I literally PAID money to watch. If this were my first time to a collegiate track meet, my expectations would have been completely missed and I would never, ever come back. Please tell me there's not an problem here...
