I've been hit by a car twice. One time the car was backing out of a driveway and the other they stopped at a stop sign then hit me as I was crossing. Neither caused serious injury, but both really sucked.
The closest I ever really came to death though was really frightening. I have a peanut allergy which causes an anaphylactic reaction. One time on a run, I began having a reaction. I was able to flag someone down and they used their cell phone to call 911. By the time I flagged them down and explained what was happening I was having so much trouble breathing that I couldn't really talk. I remember the ambulance arriving, but I don't remember seeing anything. I could hear, and feel, and I think I was able to move, but I don't remember seeing. It was like that feeling when you're half asleep, except I wasn't calm or comfortable. I was given epinephrine and taken to the hospital where I was given more epinephrine and antihistamines. By the time we got to the hospital I could breath a little better, but was still pretty restricted and my blood pressure had come back up some. I ended up staying for two nights.
Definitely the worst reaction I ever had and one of the only times since I was diagnosed that I had one without having my medication nearby. I don't know how close to death I actually was, but probably the closest I've come as an adult.
