Yes, I fondly remember free tv, though I was just 14 and would not have been paying the bill anyway. Imagine that--tv that you pick up out of the air, free of charge. I shake my head whenever I get a cable bill. Someday, they will figure out a way to make us pay for the air we breathe.
Are you under the impression that television is produced and propagated for no cost by mother nature?

It was paid for by advertisers.
Now you not only have to pay for cable, you have to watch twice as many advertisements while you are watching.
1983 Our cable was 14 channels

You must be an imposter. The wall didn't come down until the end of the decade. ...
And you must be an idiot. I was questioning the person I responded to who made the claim.
North Carolina State won the NCAA basketball tournament.
7th/8th grade for me. Amazing U2 music was coming out. REM was a huge act and I remember the black concert T shirts everyone was wearing, except me. Madonna had just come out and the way girls dressed changed drastically, which is also about when I started noticing them a bit more. In one class they asked us what the color green reminded us of, one of the cuter girls in my class told me it made her, 'horny.' My response....'What's that?'
Also ran 5:24 for the mile in track that year.

The music of that era could never be reproduced. It was unbelievable. Who knew it back then?

It was awful. Worst of all was Bruce Springsteen.

It was a great year for post-punk music. U2 released the Unforgettable Fire, and the Violent Femmes and REM released their first albums.
You had to hear these on college radio stations though. Commercial radio was a blend of Air Supply and Sister Sledge.
U2 released "War" in 1983. The Unforgettable Fire came out in late 1984. By that time, Husker Du had already released Zen Arcade.
EVERY dance I went to ended with Stairway to Heaven.

Yup. I remember training with my brother down the middle of the southbound lanes of I-45 because all the traffic toward Galveston was shut down.
I watched a lot of "Friday Night Videos." I think WTBS also had some videos on the weekend.
I thought it was 1983, but I had to look it up to check the date. I saw this live on Monday Night Football. It's an NFL record that might be tied, but it will never be broken. Notice that the ball is almost touching the end zone line at the snap.
