I will chime in as someone who has raced at a "serious" amateur level (go ahead and laugh!) at road cycling, MTB, triathlon, xc skiing, running, and ultrarunning. My experience, from most douchy to least:
Triathlon
Road cycling
Running
MTB
XC skiing
Ultrarunning
Not bad. I've done all these except ultra running. Triathletes and road cyclists share so many of the same traits, I could go either way.
I also swim masters and open water events. swimmers, are pretty chill too. I'd put them after XC skiing on the list.

I don't have much experience with triathletes but damn cyclists are annoying.
As a triathlon finisher walks by with his/her bike, put the bib number into your IronTrac app, and you will quickly know which participants have attempted to buy speed, or were easily duped into thinking he/she "needed" to buy a TT bike to participate.
At the least, the question of the bigger douche nozzle among the three could be answered with analysis of letsrun, bikeforum and slowtwitch. The problem is that there are GIGANTIC douche nozzles posting on all of the sites, so a neutral third party doing the analysis would probably conclude it's a draw.
As a runner who has turned to the dark side of triathlon, I can say that, without a doubt, road cyclists are easily the biggest douches in sport. Roadies, as they like to be called, look down on anyone that is not a roadie, particularly when it comes to triathletes. Being an a-hole to other races in the middle of said races is normal stuff and talking during group rides is frowned upon.
From the public at large's viewpoint, however, I'd guess that triathletes are regarded as douches for the incessant talk about triathlon that is common to the triathlete, but runners can't be far behind with marathon talk and fricking car decals.
Running, absolutely.
Have you not been paying attention to the LRC message boards?
Cycling... nothing like someone coming up silently from behind you and tell you off for being in their way.
"Try and get some exercise you fat prick" is usually what comes out of my mouth.
I have no issues attempting to throw them from the bike when that happens if they're still in range.
Ultra-runners-not even close!

Which do you think?
So I suppose your implication is that Lance leads the pack here. Hard to argue, but in my view Geb is an epic douche for snuggling up to a dictator. But I guess it's ok because he's always smiling!!!
Yes, I'd have to admit cyclists can be somewhat elitist.
I really think it depends on the person overall. I know several tri's, cyclists, and obviously runners. And, while runners tend to be the cheapest, friendliest, and the most willing to eat burgers and drink beers, some tri's are very nice, and cyclists are ok.
But, I have had more experiences with cyclists being arrogant than any other of these three. In fact, I won a duathlon and the cyclist ragged on me afterward rather than be good sports. Triathletes are different. Most of them are friendly, but tend to stay with their own, and make it clear that they want to only talk about tri stuff. They are convinced they are superior. Yet it is very rare to see more than one of their top triathletes in the top road race. But, as I said in the beginning, it really depends on the individual overall.
Try getting any training info out of a cyclist if he even thinks you might be a competitor someday. They just won't tell you the truth about what they do. I was finishing up a ride one afternoon (I'd started with the group but a buddy flatted and I was the only one to stop and help him, so I just did a short ride) and one of the better riders in the area came up from behind me. Just sat there on my wheel, as he was cooling down too. Then he took to doing little mind-game shit with me. Tapping my rear wheel with his front wheel. Dude obviously thought way too highly of my riding ability, who knew what stupid rookie reaction I might have had to this. They good riders also seemed to have this thing about wearing uniforms they've crashed in, as a badge of honor. That uniform might be hanging on by a couple threads but they were bound and determined to wear-out that biotch.
Training-wise cyclists the worst. But if you wanted a good time partying, cyclists the best.
Which is worse, a douche nozzle or a douche bag?
Sometimes I wonder. I've never had anything close to this happen, and in both cycling and running communities I've been part of everyone has been friendly and supportive.
Only way I've seen cyclists be "a$sholes" is if you're riding along in a group and not doing things right, being twitchy, losing wheel in front of you, etc. That often gets you yelled at, but arguably not without reason.
Track coaches.
How much activity would this thread have gotten if the subject line dealt with which group was the friendliest and most supportive to others?
Never mind, that of course would be boring. So I'll play and try my best to rely on stereotypes of participants of these sports. (but what I say is true)
No one drones ad nauseam about their sport as much as tri people. They live it, talk it, breathe it. Never ask them about their sport, its worse than asking a retired person about politics. You will never get them to shut up!
No one scrutinizes others as much as cyclists. They study equipment, what the person is wearing, and how the person is riding and they judge. Also a cyclist will want to pass any other cyclist he happens to come across while cycling. (yes some runner do this all the time too but not as much)
Runners think they are better than the people they run faster than. (Don't deny this its kind of true) If you are in a running group the pecking order is based on your running speed. Races that can change the pecking order of runners in the running group, are very hotly contested.
So says the biggest douche nozzle on LR.COM.
This post was another good laugh from you doucher.
Triathletes.
Personally I think cyclists are the biggest tools...not good ones but the ones who ride in the middle of a 35mph street crying "share the road" but only go 15mph, and then ride by you at red lights only to give you a dirty look when you pass them later. Idiots. Stick to the side of the road, don't ride 4 wide, follow the rules like everyone else, we won't have an issue.
That said, the biggest personal douche I've ever seen is the XC/Track coach at Kansas Wesleyan who thinks he's an elite tri-athlete (he's not even close) and has the ironman logo tattooed on his shin as well as a nike logo tattoo lol. He really thinks he's the man, but I used to race him in XC and destroy him (and I was no one special).
Cyclists because they bike in the middle of the road, cut cars off and run people over. Then cry they were the victim when a car hits them. Please. I wish I had a big enough vehicle and could avoid jail for driving over every cyclist who cuts me off or bikes in the middle of the road. That's the only way they will learn to be safer.
I lived in Los Angeles too long.
Whoever said the KWC coach is absolutely correct. He was my coach for a year and thank god that's over. Just read his blog:

This dude runs 37-38 min 10Ks and feels the need to blog about himself. He talks about having "sponsors" lol. Look at this dude's times:

Some guys really need to get a grip on reality.
I think you're undervaluing the strength it takes to run a 2:01 800 and 64 seconds for the 400mH.
No but he is a dick.
