LOL. Just a single pound of fat can move you for 35 miles. Carbs cover the first 18-20 miles of the marathon. How much fat do you think you need?

I've heard of glycogen depletion impacting a marathon, but never fat depletion.I think this could never happen except in cases of anorexia.

There are at least three l-carnitine threads on the front page.

If you know anything about the supplement biz you know that most "research" supportIng said supplement is fixed.

With l-carnitine the research is, like with most supplements, a mixed bag.

For athletes who are not diseased or deficient 99.9% of supplements are pretty useless. However, if you are a vegan or for some reason don't eat red meat or drink milk then amino acid or protein supplementation might be for you.

My guess given the players involved and level of competition...this is a big smoke screen.

Off-topic, but do any of these marathoners use liposuction for a weight advantage!? Not against the rules even.

"L- Carnitine is a naturally occurring amino acid, especially plentiful in red meat. It is widely available, legal nutritional supplement that is not banned by WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency). It can be found in most health food stores and supermarkets.

"A few of my athletes tried it but found no benefit so they no longer use it.

"Any use of L-Carnitine was done so within WADA guidelines. In this case, to ensure my interpretation of WADA rules was correct, I also confirmed the use and method with USADA (U.S. Anti-Doping Agency) in advance and was provided a written document of WADA rules confirming that use was ok.
