Probably my wife.
Probably my wife.
I was passed by a guy pushing a baby jogger in my first 10k race. That was confirmation that i was out of shape.
I run with earbuds if I am planning to be on a safe route. Normally I am listening to podcasts or books, but every once in a while I will through on a good album.
I run like 80-90 miles a week and sometimes I need the thought of some entertainment to get out the door. Sue me.
I don't run with a phone, though. Just an iPod Shuffle. And I wouldn't run with earbuds on busy streets. I live in a pretty quiet neighborhood with nice trails that don't allow bikes, which makes it pretty easy to listen to music safely.
I own my own track and hire top billboard acts to perform live while I'm training. I'll still wear ear buds if I get bored listening to them.
People who run with phones/iPods are immoral and deserve nothing but our collective contempt.
My wife does 10 mile hill workouts in 65-67 min with a phone while listening to music. I hate it but it works for her.
Hearing something coming up behind you or approaching at an oblique angle may save your life someday. Ask me how I know this?? Because I have had 3 different episodes in my life where my hearing has alerted me to imminent danger.
If you wear ear buds, it's only a matter of time when it catches up to you, likely where you least expect it....even on a easy jog in a *safe* residential neighborhood.

Running puts you in danger. Ask me how I know this? Because there have been times when I have been running and I have been put in danger. If you run, it's only a matter of time when it catches up to you, likely where you least expect it....even on a easy jog in a *safe* residential neighborhood.
You're like my fat neighbor who always tells me that I am crazy to go running because there are so many crazy drivers. Life is a string of risks. Running with music is pretty low on the risk scale of life. Live a little.
Running with music is one of my favorite things in the world. I'll gladly take the risk. You guys can go be pigs in cages on antibiotics.

No, it wasn't you. One slightly reassuring aspect is that she was much younger than I am. And I think she might not have gone as far as I did, but I can't be sure since she eventually was out of my sight.
hahaha, so every time someone passes you, do you tell your self "they aren't running as far?" Do you also say that in races when someone passes you, "They haven't run as many miles as me this week."
My advice stop caring about what other people are doing around you, whether it be running with headphones, wearing a jort, or passing you while juggling, and start enjoying your life.
this is why make the 15min drive out of town to regional park trails for easy days. early a.m. too. no one to pass while me shuffle along at 9 minute pace there!

Did you check out her a/ss as she passed you?
I was once passed by a man in slippers and a robe, chasing a goat that passed me during a 5 mile road race.
I was not having a good race.

It's not uncommon for me to get passed, but it is rare for the passer to be carrying a phone and wearing earbuds.
When someone passes me in a race I say, "I may catch them later." If I dont, I say "they were faster than me."
Finally, this is not caring about what people do around me. This is caring about me. Was that not obvious?

Yes, of course.
