I'd say it was a solid 4 feet of lateral distance in the air that the girl flew from the spot where her feet left the ground to where her elbow/hip hit the ground. Didn't get very high up though, maybe just a few feet up.
It amazes me just how many people screw up the tape-holding at running events. Mostly outdoor stuff that I attend. Either the two people are caught off guard and are way to late, or one or both people forget to let go (assuming it's not a velcro break-away tape) or they hold it up two high or too low. I cringe every time.
Also, for the woman with exposed torsos, how do they not get a giant papercut when it slides across their stomachs??? eeeech.
Huh, you think that's bad? In HS we had a string across the finish and I was running the 220 (yards back then, yes, I'm old). Well, one of the stupid "string girls" was supposed to let go of her end but she didn't. They were holding it up higher than chest high too. I won the race and had a nasty string burn across my neck afterwards.
The tape was too narrow to begin with It should span the full width of that narrow track.
as far as the girl being ESL or not smart enough to go to college. This HS girl probably has higher scores than just about every athlete who raced this past weekend.
awful

She's your daughter? How would you know? Just stereotyping?
Obviously the two girls weren't instructed on how to do their 'job.'
Someone probably just told them, "Go hold the tape across the finish line," assuming the girls were smart enough to know what to do.
Well, they weren't smart enough. They started off too close together, the girl on the outside pulled the roll instead of letting the tape roll off the spool and the inside girl jumped back in front of the runners instead of jumping out of the way. She had the time to see what was happening, she just panicked.
Three incompetent people could have ended someone's season.
A lot of you are way too forgiving. Mistakes happen? Sometimes mistakes don't have to happen.
Keep the idiots on the sidelines.
I remember seeing that little girl step in front of Joan Benoit in a marathon and Joan going down. That little girl should never have been allowed to hand out water. Or at least INSTRUCTED...don't step onto the course.
Just like the tri guy and the girl taking selfies last year, the guy obviously had time to avoid her.
This is the oldie but goodie:
Not stereotyping and I'm not her father.I know her coach and the school for which she runs-- a specialized academic school.
i was there and can tell you there was an adult official whose job it was to bring the tape girls out once the race went by with 1 lap to go and get them set and all. This official was talking to somebody and not paying attention. Then at the last second he rushed the girls out there (the runners are now coming onto the final straight) and the one girl backs up and by accident pulls the tape from the other girls hands. The inside girl stepped out to get it and as she was stepping back gets hit. She did not realize how fast the runners were coming. It was not her fault at all it was the fault of the adult who was supposed to get them out there and set (as he had been doing all weekend in the championship finals).
If she's so smart, how come she doesn't know enough to get out of the way of an oncoming body. That's the problem with these people who do well on tests. All book smarts and no common sense. She'll probably wind up a CEO somewhere.
So......no personal responsibility? Let me guess. You're a baby boomer.

the girl goes to my school. she is one of the racewalkers. as far as i know she has good grades
difference between a guy and a girl. guy would've said "see ya," and got out of the way.

Oh my god, string burn!
That was one of the most douchenozzle posts in letsrun history you pansy.
One does not simply "wham sauce" a meet crew

Yeah, you get tired after running 46.50 indoors. What did she run just before getting in the way?
