Totally agree. To say you let him "take it" makes you look like a sore loser. I would also be ticked if I were Jenkins. Talk about taking the shine away from your teammate's victory!
Edward isn't taking away from Jenkins victory, or saying that he could have beaten Jenkins, He is just saying he didn't need to fight for the individual victory, and so he let it go.
Imagine if Jenkins was on another team, and on his way to beat Ches, you would still expect Ches to run fully through the line, even to receive second place. But because Jenkins is on the same team, Ches doesn't even need to run through the line, and he can ease off, because its a mission accomplished.
The quote being reported as it is, is misleading because its focusing on the individual, not team aspect. But this was a team based decision.
