Saratoga's Aiden Tooker dove at the line and beat Brannigan by .03 seconds in 9:05. Brannigan was probably kicking himself for celebrating too early.
...
Let that be a lesson to you kids. Save the celebrations under after you cross the line.
Priorities people. How does Tooker's dive help his PR? No one cares if you're a 9:05.37 or a 9:05.34.

I think technically its that Makhloufi pulled a high school move and not the other way around. HS kids celebrating too early is nothing new or unique to Brannigan. It's the pros that we expect more out of.
This is like saying High School Kicker for XYZ football team pulls a Cundiff by missing a short field goal. No, we expect high schoolers to miss short field goals.

This isn't the special olympics. Tooker ran to win. What should he have done, pulled up and let brannigan win?
Charlie Spedding beats Massimo Magnani at Houston in 1984 (Magnani reportedly went berserk after he learned that he lost):

No one remembers an 8:5x high school two miler. There are more nowadays. BUT, everyone in NY remembers a champion.
At the NY Federation XC championships, Brannigan celebrated with something like a mile to go, when other runners were still in the picture.

He ended up winning that race, but it was definitely a bold move. Brannigan is obviously a great story, and I wish him the best, but he needs to be more aware of what's going on around him.
Why lose respect the kids won a national title already this is Branigans 4th time losing a state championship by less than a second. Tooker is a great guy and I actually meet up and run with Branigan. In my opinion allowing Branigan to win only due to his condition would be disrespectful as his wish is to not be treated differently and in refusing to beat him it would be treating him differently.

Well said. What about if a kid's parent was sick or dying and needed a State or National Title because he was running for his dad, or for a friend who harmed himself? Let's start looking into each kid's life and fix Nationals to gave kids titles based on things not related to running?

This is a pretty rude thing to say. Mikey is a runner and he isn't defined by his autism. You're insulting both competitors by suggesting that Mikey needed to be handed the victory. I'm sure Mikey isn't as salty as you, either.
this sneak victory was also amazing.
John Treacy over the Englishman
Brannigan just finished 2nd again, right behind Elijah Armstrong at NBIN in the 5K. He was the only runner in the field to go with Armstrong. Say what you want about the kid but he always sticks his nose in it. Love watching him compete!
raise your fingers up, you better win,
if you don't you deserve the slings and arrows.
lets make excuses for people, its the new american way, its this generation.
as another branigan once said:
"I think you've got to slow down, before you start to blow it.
I think you're headed for a breakdown, so be careful not to show it "
maybe he was thinking that....
Hey guys I'm a junior who just discerned running and think I have future in the sport. I think it's rude what you're saying about mike and Aiden, both are competitors and amazing runners.
Do any of you know what Tookers training is like? I want to start training more this outdoor season, I currently have a 17:45 XC PR and ran 10:55 last year in the 3200 but did not train much, maybe 20 miles a week. I think if I train like these guys I could be at a 9:05 3200 level by next indoor season. Do any of you know anything or have any advice? My coach doesn't know what he's doing.

No but 30 years after you quit Ventolin can make you a champion.

LOL. I was watching that race from the beginning of the last straightaway. Couldn't tell who won. Laughed my ass off when I saw the pic
Meh, that's kinda dickish to be honest. Looks the dude in his face and giving the thumbs up to the crowd? Wish he would have been beat at the line.
