Women's 800: Switzerland's Selina Buchel wins it in 2:01.95 just beating Russia's Olympic bronze medalist Yekaterina Poistogova by .04. (Remember Poistogova was mentioned in the German documentary on Russian doping.)
Jenny Meadows was a DNS as she pulled out with illness. I have to say I think it's a little lame that Meadows didn't run after protesting and getting another athlete DQd from the semis so she could make the final. That said, maybe there was some justice in it since the athlete DQd was a Russian and Meadows has lost her fair share of medals to Russian dopers. Although this particular Russian could very well be clean.
I was rooting for Meadows coming in. From what I've read, she's overcome a lot to get back from injuries and she seems pretty tough, so I'm surprised she wouldn't race here even when sick. Maybe her illness was really that bad.

really great to see O'Hare getting the bronze. it seems he's got a great future ahead of him, now with a commonwealth outdoor and euro indoor bronze. surprised to see henrik not finishing higher up in the standings, though his 3k could have taken some sting out.

That win by Holusa was stunning. Apparently the place was deafening.

It was, yet for some reason the title of this thread instead mentions the fight for bronze -
ingebrigtsen is probably one of my favorite runners out there, he's still got some years left too.

Chris O'Hare, a former NCAA champion, is a more recognizable name and more relevant to most people on the LetsRun message boards since he has an American connection. We did the same thing with Lee Emanuel and Kate Avery. Why was it relevant to mention that Avery didn't make the 3000 final? Because she's the NCAA XC Champ so people know who she is and care.
Jakub Holusa hasn't been a big name at international meets (he has an 800 silver from World Indoor 2012, but otherwise hasn't been relevant at big meets) so isn't someone most people know. I gave him his due on the homepage where I said, "Czech Republic’s Jakub Houlsa thrilled the home crowd with a surprise win in the 1,500 over Turkey’s Tanui Ozbilen", but yes, I made the headline about Chris O'Hare to get people's attention.
For the record, I did look for a picture of Houlsa to use instead of O'Hare, but we don't even have one in the LRC database as far as I could find: https://www.google.com/search?q=site:letsrun.com+jakub+houlsa&rlz=1CAACAG_enUS580JM581&es_sm=122&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=vE7-VJ7AIIyZgwTsz4PQBg&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=1366&bih=633 -
I was thinking that Holusa had been an exchange student here in the U.S. but that was Zivec. That finish was impressive. Tanui had a huge lead with 200m to go at about 3:11 and he seemed to be going strong but Holusa came on like crazy and must have closed around 25. Cichocka, the silver medalist in the women's 1500m, was, I think, a medalist in the 800m at world indoors last year in Poland.
