Or do you, the board peanut gallery, really believe that Koech, Gebremeskel, or whatever 'Junior' superstar really can go 13 flat or 2:05 prior to being 18 1/2?
Did it occur to you that perhaps one may be truthful and the other lying? Not all athletes from the same nation following the same protocol?
Lagat has only failed one more drug test than Armstrong ever did.

Yea he's obviously been in the doping game for a while, with the new peptide he could probably retain his kick till he's 50!
Forget over 40.
There are fewer than 50 men that have ever run faster than that at any age.
And it's better than some serious runners lifetime PR like Paul Bitok and Abraham Chebii.

well then, you have 19 more years of farah as world beater, and 23 more years of rupp as farah's number two son.
New EPO Master of Testing CLEAN! Please STOP posting about La-cheat. Let's focus on the young americans, who are doing some great things right now.
P.S. Lagat got beat by Adam G in 1997 and then a year later he was running sub 3:30?

I know this question has popped up on the MB before, with little resolution, but:
How old is he really?
Before you freak out (I remember a thread on this at some point with all kinds of anger) I do not intend to lessen his accomplishment but quite the opposite. This should be obvious since no Kenyan or for that matter anyone I'm aware of in any third world setting who is involved in sports has ever claimed to be older than they were. Age lying is ALWAYS (when done by athletes such as Kip) to claim you are younger than you really are.
So, impressive as he is, is this an even bigger deal since he's likely 42 or 43?
Or do you, the board peanut gallery, really believe that Koech, Gebremeskel, or whatever 'Junior' superstar really can go 13 flat or 2:05 prior to being 18 1/2?
About 50% of Kenyans have recorded dates of birth. Also, prior to coming to the U.S., Lagat never tried to make a Jr national team or pursue sponsorship or anything that would cause you to back date your age. I think most people believe Lagat's DOB is correct.

You know as well as I do that Lagat never failed a doping test. It is very well known that his badly mistreated (very high heat for multiple days) A sample showed characteristics that led them to classify it as a positive A, but the not-mistreated B sample showed no indications at all. As a result of this testing situation they changed what and how they looked for PEDs in the sample (prior method was flawed). It is my impression that now a badly handled sample of the sort Lagat had would not test positive, which is why the prior method was flawed and unreliable. You do not want false positives because of bad treatment.

Sort of like when Marion Jones's B sample for EPO came back negative:

I don't care what he's on or what his age is.
For anyone to run one of the top times in the world in the 1500 in 1999 and put up a time like this in 2015 is seriously RUNNING.
That's 17 years of top level times.
The body should be breaking down.
That A-sample was very much mistreated! Bullied repeatedly and told it would never be as good as his brother, B-sample! Also told it wouldn't even count if B was tested after. By that time it was crushed mentally, and told lies to get back at B and boost it's self-esteem in a dysfunctional fashion. Did I mention it was left in a hot car in which a kitten died, parked outside a strip club and A was delerious with the heat on top of everything?!?!

The wonders of modern medicine.
The A sample was murdered by a dumb sample collector. Either that, or it was intentionally sabotaged by a jealous American runner.
"The wonders of modern medicine."
Rupp is more interesting. 14 years of hardcore running, unlike Lagat. And, unlike Lagat, ever improving times.

I used to think that but I am not sure if one can be so dogmatic.
Maybe James Li has a superb method of training that does not wear distance runners down? It is a shame that there is not more information out there about James Li's training methods because he is probably one of the best distance-running coaches out there.
Lagat himself also appears to be quite balanced in his outlook on life - being a world class distance runner does not seem to be some sort of purgatory for him as it is for many other top pros. I have not read any reports of him crushing himself with balls-busting sessions and huge post-race workouts and in interviews he indicates that he gives a lot of time for his family and does not do things such as sleeping for 13 hours every day in an oxygen tent.
All of these things may be factors regarding his longevity at the top.
Do you understand my's english nowd.
IGF-1 lr3 .........................
without it lagat would be in
eamon coughlan territory by now.
there is longevity ,people aging better,
correct training.
this here is none of above.

7:37 at age 40 is stunning and he can still improve as i think. no signs of age.
besides of that i ask myself, if really every elite in the past has tried to continue running at world class level obsessively, or if lagat is the first elite who has hit the perfect training volume/training schedule for his individuality and others not, or if lagat is simply unique, or if coach li is simply congenial.

be around for another 10 - 15 years .
so bound to be a new endurance drug
within decade then
cream pants as watch rupp take down
all records and farah finally becomes goat.
Could they share this fountain of youth with all of us? Sounds like there could be a market for prolonged well being. Probably a better market than a bit of sponsorship money in running...
Stop the running. Write a book detailing the formula. Become the poster boy of a foreign pharma company (in a country where extended quality if life is seen as more important than prolonged life in diapers)... Become a multi bizilionaire...
Contribute positively to the world (more so than by running a few laps around a track a few seconds faster than someone else)
I wouldn't mind being fitter at 40 and 2 months, than I was in college (like Lagat)...
