Seriously. Skip the 10000m. Double in the 5000 and steeplechase.
Could he learn the jumps in time for 2016?

1500/5000 double would be classier. Steeple is for guys that can't win flat races.
THE craziest and most insane idea so far this year
Just saw the schedule. He could do 10,000m and the 3000m SC. Doing the 5000m at same time could be tough:
August 17th:
10:05am : 5000m heat
11:30am: 3000m SC final

... said the guy who's too spastic/chicken to try it.

The flats are for guys who can't jump and chew gum at the same time.

According to John Walker:
"... the 3000 meters steeplechase, an event I regard like the marathon as one suited to athletes who do not have the speed for top achievements in any of the major track races.
There are exceptions like Anders Garderud of Sweden and the late Polish champion, Bronislaw Malinowski, the Olympic title winners in 1976 and 1980, respectively, for whom the steeplechase was their true calling but basically the athletes who run it are like horses who do not make the grade on the flat and are put over the jumps. Athletes like Bayi have so much extra speed that they overcome any lack of hurdling ability and, like Bayi, I have considered the steeplechase -- it is the softest event in any Olympic Games."
... for a quote from 40 years ago.
Indeed. I wonder if JW would consider a 2:03 marathon or a 7:58 steeple as any kind of soft target? I doubt it. And nothing suggests he could have done either one, as incredible as he was at 1500/mile.
JW stayed in his comfort zone (1500m-mile). He failed at the 5k, and only ran sub 1:45 in the 800m once. Yup, JW was afraid of the SC, and 5k on up.
Bayi started off as a steeplechaser. Couldn't hack it so he went to the 1500 for easy pickings. John Walker remembers him well.
Ive given you a list of runners who 'couldn't make it on the flats'. Or not?
For the record Walker is not an expert on the he steeplechase.
Should Usain Bolt start training for the 110 hurdles?
Bob Schul should not be on that list. He a 2M / 3M/ 5k runner that dabbled in the steeple and the 1500m early on his career. I
Why do you assume Farah is "optimal" at 3000m?

In fairness, a similar statement could be made of every event over 100 meters (though it is more true of the steeple than most events).

Did you know that Maurice Greene started out as a miler, and only switched to the 100 after his coach told him that he just didn't have the endurance it would take for the longer events? The rest, as they say, is history.
Ridiculous quote. Steeple > flat. Steeple is for athletes, flat events are for the less coordinated wusses who don't want to get injured. Pan Zs
I agree, steeple is the closest event in track in field most similar to original cross country running courses. If you don't grunt and jump then you're a flatlander pansy.

and he couldn't make it.
Kenya would never let him win the steeplechase. They would invent some new PED's and dope a guy to 7:50 if that's what it took.
His sitting and kicking wouldn't stand a chance anyhow.
