i wouldn't say they bombed at all. they won the 2 Wanamaker miles but Centro wanted more. It wasn't flawless by his own standards.Alberto pushes those athletes to greatness by insisting on times - the
You make some decent points particularly until you get to Cain and Levins (although Centro and Willis both wanted more than a 3:51).
A few points.
1) Levins totally bombed. There is no other way to say it. On the one hand, you say he had no kick but then say he's got great speed as he's more suited for 1500-3000. The guy just ran a 3:54 indoor mile with a 55 last lap. Off a relatively slow 5000 pace, I'd expect him to have a monster kick.
He's got a lot of experience with the 5000 indoors. He was 4th in NCAAs in the event and ran a Canadian record of 13:19 last year. Plus he's a 10,000 runner so a 5000 indoors is just like a 10,000 on the track - 25 laps.
If you ask me, I'd say he was probably sick. You act like they just outkicked him. No, he couldn't manage anything at all. He went 30.58-31.90 for his last 2 laps. It was nothing remotely like the form he showed 2 weeks ago..
2) The rabbiting in the women's 1500 was bad but not as bad as some have made it out to be. It wasn't 30-34. The first 209 for Rowbury was 32.462 which means she ran her first 209 at 31.06 pace for 200. Her second 200 was 32.06. So she went 31.1, 32.1. That means she ran her first 409 at 4:13 mile pace. Yes, it was too fast by a half a second per 200 (1 second for 400).
This race reminds me of why I think Asbel Kiprop is so brilliant. Time and time again, he rips a roaring fast lap on the DL circuit but still has the goods at the end.
3) When were we told Cain was going to be brought around slowly?
That being said, I'm not putting too much into this race as a) it's possible the whole group is sick and b) the opening pace is too fast but I'll be watching her like a hawk come outdoors.
The disconcerting things is a) her 1k time in Boston was much slower than last year (but so was the whole race) and b) who she is losing to. She was better than Moser last year. Now she's worse. Same thing for her versus Hasay.
I think the bombs were good for the sport. Remember when the Patriots were written off after they got destroyed by KC this year? We all know how that worked out. Plus the PED innuendo might die down a little bit
