i don't know who "just checking" is but I suspect that he has never had the experience of being a finalist in the National Championships or Olympic Trials. (I have). I think GH is a tremendous talent and still has a chance to make an international impact. I'm not being judgemental about becoming a rabbit, but I know for a fact that getting sent out to be a plow horse when you are a racehorse is not good.
I've been involved in this sport for over 50 years and know that confidence and aggressiveness is everything. I can't imagine Zatopek, Herb Elliot, Roger Bannister or Jim Ryun agreeing to go out and be a pace setter and dropping out of a race.
If you're not ready, run in the "b" race and learn how to win again.
In my opinion, GH should have said "no" if he was asked to be a rabbit.
By the way, you don't have to be a pro and do nothing but workout. There is plenty of time to hold a real job and workout.
Runners are way to worried about what their sponsors are thinking.
My advice, never be a rabbit and never quit a race!
Hey dude, I LOVE the "I was a finalist in the National Championships or Olympic Trials" self plug. Also LOVE your suspicions - oooh! ("I suspect that he has never had the experience..."
Here is a quick hint for you: Don't advertise your suspicions. And don't advertise your qualifications. Instead, try to allow your posts to stand on their own merits,
Now, regarding the other nonsense that you wrote:
1) Nobody thinks that acting as a rabbit says anything about German being in great shape.
2) If you would be mentally affected by acting as a rabbit that says something about your own mentality. It says nothing at all about that of others.
3) Like you, I also think that German is a tremendous talent.
4) I have a direct connection to German and I definitely want to seem him reach his potential. Note that here I won't speak for you saying something idiotic like "I suspect that you do not have any such direct connection."
5) The most common way to post German Fernandez' initials is as "GF", not "GH".
Just Checking- Disagree with you, that John Perry should not post qualifications. He has more success than most if us- and if he believes GF's rabbiting compromises his success, then his experience gives him credibility & gives his opinions validity.
Just like a CPA can give better career advice for other CPA's- same principle for Perry. If you argue this, then you're just looking to argue.
Fair enough that you disagree with me. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Still, it is pure BS to make this nonsense call about GF's rabbitting compromising his success. Pretty sure that GF has a qualified coach who clearly disagrees.
Finally, your "If you argue this, then you're just looking to argue." is patently false and frankly rather stupid. Ideas and words stand on their own. I am quite certain that even Einstein himself said many foolish things.
I bet it won't take long to list ten runners much faster and more accomplished than you who have rabbited races. Let's start with Steve Scott. Then Tom Byers.Let's get an exotic flare with Haron Lagat. Acosta led out this weekend.I'd have to research exactly who they were as it's been many years of following the sport but I remember seeing 1:45 and faster 800 guys taking the top European 1500 and miles out. Shoot I probably have seen five at Payton Jordan and Stanford over the last couple years that had world class credentials. I bet you never passed in basketball either. (Although something tells me you were never much in any other sport.)If you are such an emotional wreck that you can't take a paycheck (or do a friend a favor in Scott's case) and rabbit without it throwing you into an identity crisis, it is amazing you did anything in this sport and not surprising you didn't do more.

Yay!
is mary cain the new german hernandez??mostly joking, but you forget that a monstrous part of talent is durability and ability to psychologically stay strong, focused, and motivated when things aren't going perfectly. maybe he's a freak physical talent but a baby when things start heading south mentally? not stating, just questioning

I am currently watching the 5k of Millrose, and after less than a mile and German is already out of camera...
It actually hurt me to see him so far away from his potential.
Does anyone have info on why he his struggling so much to come back into shape?
Rabbiting sucked for Lewis Johnson, and only lead to his multi-multi-multi million dollar broadcasting career.
No absolutes. There are races worth quitting with reasons for quitting. Such as a health issue, and a marathon. Few ever want to quit a race ever, there are times when it makes sense. (Heat prostration).
Who knows what's up with GH.
Hopefully he regains his health and fitness.
William Tanui used to be a rabbit. Seem to remember that he was an Olympic champion.

I suppose a 800m runner pacing a 1:53 first 880 of a mile race would be ok if you viewed as a payday and a workout and paced all sections running that day. However, I wouldn't have considered doing it in my running days in the 1960's. A couple of my friends paced Ryun in the World Record at Berkeley In 1966. Back then the pacers had to finish the race with an honest effort. That last lap was agony but they didn't step off the track. One of the pace setters later made the Olympic Team.
Never quit in a race.
John, although the sport has changed a lot your comments are sound. Dropping out is not good, to be pacing in your event lacks focus on improving ones competitive response.
I remember the talent you had at OSU with your brother and Tom. I think as much as coaches (and agents) should look at the sport a bit differently today they sometimes outsmart themselves to the loss of the athletes whose careers are relatively short.

You think being a designated pacer is "quitting" what the h#ll kinda thinking is that??
Dude got a quick paycheck to pace. I don't blame him at all.
If I were him I'd hit the road racing circuit and see if I could make some ca$h.

You folks do realize that German was a designated pacer at this race, right?
This is not a bad result. This is not a good result. This is no result at all.
HE WAS THE PACER!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello? Anybody understand this sport? Even just a little bit?
Understanding the sport is one thing. Understanding how the internet works is another. This thread was from February. No one in the thread even mentioned the Pre meet until AFTER this little tantrum of yours. Remember to read the dates of posts before you freak out.
Add Tariku Bekele to the list of really fast rabbits

What is so difficult about getting German Fernandez' initials correct?
And why GH?
WTF?

1) Please see who brought this thread back up.
2) Please note WHEN they brought this thread back up.
3) Next, note their explicitly posted stance since then.
4) Finally, get a clue.

Ah, I understand. You knew all along that it was an old thread where the only new comment was about foot-strike hemolysis, but were responding in advance to the comments that you anticipated would soon follow. Very clever.
In that spirit, here's my response to your next response: "No, YOU'RE an idiot."
Idk, it makes me sorry to say this cause you said some good things... and some not so good things... so wtf. Get out of your mom's snatch. Wipe the dust off your spikes and go run that 60 by 400 workout you used to do.
GF is a competitor and you're right to suggest he may not be suited to be a PRO but fuak ck you're pity.
if any of us was as good as German was in high school, we would have gone to whatever top program wanted us. He had great success while young and tried to continue that pattern (like every one of us would have)...unfortunately, the body and mind sometimes need more time, and very few people have the patience to plan a lifetime peak for age 25 or so
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
