Saving it for cross country, just like all CU Buffs.
Above poster might check out who won the actual race. Was that Buff saving it? Doofus.

This.
Will be manuevered to be a cog in the xc machine instead of maximizing track potential for a kid who should be thinking at that level eventually.
So what if they had the winner, deepest xc team in history should have more than 1 athletes at the NCAA Track Championships and it will be worse outdoors.
xc is not n olympic sport wrote:

Please look at Wetmore's track record with Olympians. Has coaches quite a few future Olympians and World Champs qualifiers at Colorado.
Looks like you also haven't bothered to look at results, Pearson will likely qualify. And I'm sure they'll get another or two at whatever time trial gets run at the PAC-12 meet.
Also, indoor track is not an Olympic event either.
Look, Ben is focusing on his studies right now. He is carrying a 4.0 GPA taking advanced economics and BioChem II. Coupled with the night classes he is taking in Denver at the UD campus, his training is sporadic. However, when it comes to race, he will be ready. He has an ability to shift from the books to the track like no one else.

Good info, makes a lot of sense. Thank you. Big fan of his. Top tier student athlete.

Lol why are you being so specific about what biochem class he is taking? It's not even an advanced class. It's just biochem 2.
Why is ben going to CU if he's so serious about studying? I'm sure he could have gone to stanford or princeton where there are much better academic opportunities. It doesn't make much sense to me.

You're aware that 2+2 is the same at every school, right? Or specifically in this case, do you think there's an amino acid that only Princeton/Stanford students get taught? Biochem is Biochem. At this level, it's the same at every school.

Fvck off. The kid is a baller. Carrying a 4.0 while running 100 miles a week.
Glad he is ok and just focused on his studies.
I remember reading an interview with Wetmore somewhere where he said Saarel was averaging 5 hours of sleep a night leading up to this past NCAA XC championships.
There was also a quote in there where Wetmore said that Ben got 7 hours of sleep the night before the race and that he (Saarel) said it was the most he had gotten in a while and was enough in and of itself to leave him feeling refreshed.
I don't know what's more impressive, that he finished 8th at NCAA XC off of 90 mile weeks with 5 hours of sleep or that he's been able to stay injury free up to this point with a schedule like that, kid's bulletproof.

Why are you being so insulting? Nothing called for that language.
Kid was raised right.
He needs to take winter semester off next year and focus on Rio, wouldn't be out of his reach with rest and focus.

Guy shows up with some real information and let's is know the situation and some guy who adds nothing decides to harass him about providing too much information.
Someone with inside information posted that he was dinged during the fall, but still managed to do great at NCAA Cross Country. I am betting he will end up a 4 X top 10 XC runner like Chris Derrick and a few others. I once thought he was a surefire Pro runner, but he may choose a course more like Dan Lincoln than Derrick or Ritz.
