both are great athletes in their own discipline. Both own the national record in their own events, and both likely have bright futures. Don’t know why this message board needs to feel like there needs to be a loser and a winner here.

Brazier: 1.4% off the WR, 9th fastest man at 800m, World Gold

Fisher: 1.4% off the WR, 7th fastest man at 10,000m, 5th place at Olympics

Now, if Fisher can get a World Gold like Brazier did, he will exceed Brazier's accomplishments and this HS coach's text will be officially incorrect!

Much harder for Fisher in this case as he will be battling some of the all time greats in the 5 or 10 while Brazier had a weak sauce 800 field when he won that gold.

He is not the best in Michigan, just the history of the United States. This post did not age well.

Interesting stat! Brazier is obviously amazing, however he did win gold at a point in time when the 800 was especially weak. Fisher also got 5th in one of the deepest fields of all time.

To be fair, Fisher has run his amazing times in an era where times have suddenly gone substantially faster thanks to shoe technology, most notably in longer events compared to the 800. His 5th place at the Olympics was extremely impressive, and his races this year suggest he has taken a step up. It's entirely reasonable to call him a medal contender at Worlds this year. But Brazier's gold at Worlds (an actual medal, not a hypothetical one) still puts him comfortably ahead of Fisher for now, in my view.

World champ medals and placings are worth a lot less than olympics ones. Sorry.

Couple that with the level of talent at the 2019 WC 800 vs 2020 Olys 10000, Fisher's placing is already worth more than that gold.

Brazier is better idk what your problem is. Making the Olympics is better then a winning world championships? Does that mean the slow middle eastern woman that run 28 second 200s but are Olympian’s because their country has no one else to send better then Brazier too. No he's not. If you don't understand the difference in the depth of competition, well...you've got bigger problems to solve in your own life.

I don't know that it aged poorly as much as interestingly. How cool is it that both have developed to the point that we are even having this debate!

The idea that the Olympics has more depth in competition than worlds is stupid. Depth in a given year depends on health of the athletes. While the Olympics has more prestige, if you look at world championship results and records through the years, they stand up against the Olympics in any event besides the marathon. Even then, the depth in the marathon is similar in the world championships vs. Olympics, but it doesn't have the same quality up front.

They both have done well but now injuries have taken a toll. Not sure if either will ever be back in their best form.
