Just watching them run tells you a lot. Here we are years later and Brazier, after 1:43.55, took some steps back but with more aerobic development--he barely ran any mileage in hs and not much at A and M--he is world champion with a championship record. He ran 3:37 this year in one attempt after 3:59 the previous campaign in one attempt indoors in December. As a miler, he has a lot of untapped potential still and I would not be surprised at all to see him run in the low 3:30s at the least. That Michigan coach really knew what he was seeing. Meanwhile, Grant Fisher became a very good college guy and may well have a good future in the 5000m, 13:07-8 is in the cards next year.

Brazier looks very easy, a big easy stride, just needing to straighten out his footplant, which as was pointed out goes way across his middle, and he has plenty of room for aerobic development. He will be a monster in college. Wetzel is all over the place with his arms and torso, which should be easily correctable in college with ab work, weights, and form drills. Fisher is super-efficient with a very tight arm carriage, very short arm swing, and a lower ceiling at 1500m/mile than Brazier, it seems to me, but a great future at higher distances, 5000m-10000m, as his mileage builds. As for Brazier, he'll have to do the work and stay healthy to realize that future, so who knows? But at 1:48 already, if he adds aerobic work, he'll be impressive.

This thread doesn’t make any sense. Neither Fischer nor Brazier are in Michigan.
Anyone want to explain to concept of post from 2015?
Who was the coach who said this ?

This and it's still annoying to compare the two since they excel in different events.

Is he though? Brazier is the American record holder in his events.
Which record(s) does Fisher hold?
That's nice to own a AR but if he had the WR then you may have a case.
Fisher is top 15 in the3000 & 5000 & top 5 in the 10k. So high caliber across three events.
Also, only one of the two is an Olympian. You're no one in track if you're not an Olympian.

That last statement definitely can be debated. Olympics are a big deal but i wouldn't say you are a nobody if you don't be one

Honestly I like both of them.
But I’d give this to Donavan still:
2019 800m gold medalist
Indoor/Outdoor 800m American record holder
Indoor 600m World record holder
also noteworthy:
2015 800m NCAA champion; American junior and collegiate record
2017 800m US Champion
2019 800m US Champion
2019 800m Diamond league winner — Zurich
Grant Fisher:
2017 5000m NCAA champion
2021 10000m 2nd Olympic Trials
also noteworthy:
2013 Footlocker champion
2014 Footlocker champion
Seems like a no brainer. In the end they’re both phenomenal tho.

fisher will almost certainly never win a world/oly medal. donavan has a gold and will likely win more.

Q1: Who won the men's 5k at 1996 Olympics?
Q2: Who holds the men's indoor and outdoor 3000 meter world records?
Most LRC readers can't answer Q1 without Google.
Most LRC readers know the answer to Q2 and that person never competed at the Olympics despite setting multiple world records in the 3000 and 5000.

Exactly.
They are both great, young, talented runners from Michigan doing their thing in their respective events.
Can’t people just enjoy that and wish them both the best and hope for them to both make teams, set records, and win medals.
What happened to you people that dish out hate, or I told you so.
These two guys are great to watch, listen too.
Go Donavan Brazier!
Go Grant Fisher!

Lol Brazier by a billion miles at the moment. No way Grant ever wins a Diamond League Championship or World Championship.
probably will never win a WC in this time trial champs/super spike age, but 12:53 would win many Diamond Leagues, and a British 12:53 runner didn't fair too bad in the Olympics
Probably 25 guys in the world right now that could run under 12:50 on the BU track. Maybe 50. I’m basing this on the fact that Sam Atkins ran 13:03 at Boston. Nothing taking away from Atkins, but let’s just have some real talk. BU track and super shoes have turned that track into a joke of sorts.
Probably 1 guy in the world right now that could run 1:13 for 600 indoors right now and his name is Brazier. Imagine Brazier running an 800 at BU.
Both athletes are remarkable, but Brazier continues to win this argument by a mile.
No way. 22 guys have broken 12:50 in world history. Mo Ahmed at 12:47.20 is #11, and he ran 12:56 yesterday. The new shoes and BU track are fast, but your claim is utterly ridiculous.
