Thoughts?
I thought it was great to see everyone from their teams (especially in the 1200, 400 and 800 legs) really lay it all out on the line and just run as fast as they possibly could.
Biggest surprise for me was not Georgetown winning, but how underwhelming Ashland's performance was. I at least expected Windle to be right there with the top 3 1200 guys. The rest of their team was basically in no man's land the whole race, but I'm still pretty surprised

Great win for the Hoyas! I guess I expected them to be in the race with six guys 1:50 or better so far this indoor season. And they didn't run Billy Ledder, who has the best Hoya time this year.
-
Not sure why you were surprised with Ashland laying an egg. They didn't have their anchor from last year on the team and Windle is the only one with Pr's anywhere near the other guys from the top schools in the race . 1:53 & 3:50 guys get exposed by 3:36/1:46/2:17 guys. If you could have windle run every leg, sure...they'd be a sub 9:40 team...but loading your team with throwers is typically ineffective in other areas.
Didn't see the race, but glad to see Penn's anchor back on top of things, had a shaky year last year but looks to be on the mend -
Good point about the 1:53/3:50 guys getting exposed; I guess it is easy to get a distorted view of even great DII schools accomplishments. I knew Baum was gone, but I honestly believed that Hall would step in and be just as good a miler and they wouldn't really miss him much (in case you didn't know he did run a sub-24 8k this year in xc). Apparently he's sort of dinged up right now and did not look good on his leg.
I still stand by my surprise of Windle kind of dropping an egg I expected more. Started off way in the back of the pack and didn't really start moving up until 600 to go. You could tell the coach wanted more too because he was going pretty crazy during the 1200 and the first lap of the 400 then disappeared from the group of coaches yelling at their athletes down the backstretch.
Yeah Creese looked good; defiantly getting back into the kind of shape we know he can be in. Probably would have won if he didn't have to start out with a much faster 400 than the GTown and Nova anchors since PSU's 800 legs went out in ~51-52 then fell back hard the last 100 and their exchange was sloppy -
Sorry to sound stupid but what race are you talking about?

at the PSU National meet tonight they ran a stacked DMR and the top teams were clearly making an attempt on the Record of 9:25.97. here are the results http://www.gopsusports.com/livestats/c-track/penn-state-national-15/150130F052.htm

G-Town did it with such a young team too, wow. Nice to see the DMR title at nationals so up for grabs with teams like these coming out of the woodwork + the heavyweights like Stanford and Oregon.
I'm really curious to see what Oregon's full DMR squad will be at NCAA's, I'm not sure the team that ran 9:32 in Kentucky last weekend (two weekends ago?) is there "A" squad. That being said, after looking up the PB's of the guys on the squad it seems like really the only improvement would come from replacing Gregorek with Prakel on the 1200 leg.
IMO the team that wins the DMR this year will be a school where none of the guys are running individual events like how Stanford did last year, and it definitely seems like Georgetown could fall under that category at the moment. Stanford this year it seems though will probably have a couple of guys competing individually with Solomon and McGorty so I'm not sure I like their chances. -
Georgetown is a classy bunch -- running with their feet, not their months. No wonder they've been the top middle distance program in the East for nearly four decades. A well-deserved win.
-
Oregon ran 2:54, 48, 1:48 and 4:02 at Ky when they ran 9:32. They have improvement coming on the 400 and mile legs. Cheserek jogged a 4:02 when they ran 9:32. He ran a 3:36 last year as a frosh. That's a 3:53/3:54 conversion. So that's major time right there. Oregon is around 9:25 with a 47(realistic) leg and The King at 3:56 (also realistic).
Should be good for the win. -

What?!?
Prakel ran 4:10 last week in Ky. Gregorek ran 2:54 on the DMR and a 7:54 3000 the next day. You must be joking about the only improvement Oregon has is replacing Gregorek with Prakel. Gregorek is solid. He's in sub 4 shape right now as evidenced by his 3000. Improvement will come tho. Read the last post. By "Oregon". That hit the nail on the head.[ -
Does anyone close to the PSU program know if they have considered flipping Kidder and Creese? Both are exceptional but it seems Kidder has a little more basic finishing speed that might be advantageous against the best. I'm sure their coach knows far better than I do. I was just wondering if it is something to be considered for nationals, Penn, etc.

Yeah but Prakel also rand 3:41 outdoors last year and made the NCAA final, if he can get into shape he'd be a better option than Gregorek. Who knows what the deal was with that 4:10 anyways, could have fallen, been injured, sick etc. -

Gregorek ready for the quantum leap. Less academic stress than Columbia and didnt have to run cross last fall. Very strong and healthy right now. Keep an eye on him.

Billy Ledder was their top 800 guy so far this season, wonder why Georgetown didn't run him.
-
No need obviously
Maybe give him a rested full shot at getting sure 800 q'er today?
Have not looked at 800 entries yet -
The interesting things about the race are who didn't run for Nova and their anchor running the leadoff leg.
There is a much faster lineup they were going to use but didn't. -
Not really a much faster line up of guys ,different order though they might pick up 4-5 secs though. Swap Solis and Williamsz
Newcomer frosh Slade split 149 and will most likely be that guy
Solis split 251 last year
Muhammad on 400 pick up 1.2 -

Name a program that runs with its month, or mouth, which ever suits you? Only one Hoya runner since 1997 has added his name to their Top 10 list at 800 and only two in the 1500. Three guys in the last 18 years.
The last men's Penn Relays win was the 4x800 in 2004. Top middle distance program in the East? In DC, maybe.
