My town just built a brand new track and football field. The old one was a real piece of shit but I used it from time to time as it was a mile from my house and it was the perfect distance to run there as a warm up, do my work out and then run home to cool down. It was completed near the end of the summer and it’s a great facility now, I even went to the opening were the Mayor invited every other politician under the sun and bad mouthed by name any persons who had opposed the new development. He declared how it was a wonderful new facility for the town but there is only one problem, now they have enclosed the track with a fence so unless you are part of one of the High School teams you can’t use it. I am guessing they have maybe a handful of T and F athletes.
I contacted the Athletics Director of the school by email and he said that they would not open for after school use until they installed cameras to protect the town’s investment. So a few months go by and I run by and notice they have a notices up that the facility is protected by CCTV cameras monitored at the police station (which is next door). I email the AD again and ask if it will now be open and he said not yet they are still working on it. I ask who has to make the decision and when it will be made. He said he did not know either. I feel they are just brushing me off and hope I will just stop asking.
I believe that when they use tax payers money to build a facility that costs over $2 million then they should make it available to town residents and not just a handful of High School athletes.
Any thoughts on this? Anyone face a similar issue or have any ideas on how to get them to open it up?
