I really don't understand how shoveling off a 3 ft. wide path of 2 inches of snow for 30 ft. is equal to coming home from a 14 month tour in Iraq.
To call this guy a hero?
Really?
So, these two acts are equal?
No, they're not even in the same ballpark. But this is the kind stupid meaningless feel good crap our stupid, meaningless media latches on to...

Sometimes we need to be reminded that there is good in the world.
I'm still irked that most of the bandits were not publicly identified.

I know you're a troll, but I'm going to comment anyways and give you a 4/10:
The BAA pays the towns the course runs through to close the roads for a private event. If you bandit the race, you are technically trespassing even though you, the tax payer, "pay" for those roads. Cities still reserve the right to close a road for any reason for any amount of time barring you from entry.
First rule of LetsRun is you can't rate a troll and comment at the same time. You have to pick one
The first rule of LRC is: Never admit to posting on LRC.
The second rule of LRC is: Never admit to knowing Jamin.
Xenon is breaking LRC rules like they're pistachio shells.
It might be akin to a drug dealer turned informant, or a philandering rock star that's born again. When there is a perceived social good then it is ok to rewards boorish behavior.
I certainly can't cast any stones as I used to bandit races for two purposes; get in the newspaper photo of the start and to get in a tempo run. I haven't done it in decades but to my everlasting defense - I was a bandit with a conscious. I would tell anyone that I was running with that I wasn't going through the finish line and that they should feel free to draft off me if they so choose. Actually now that I look back on it; I may be a hero because I used bad behavior to accomplish a social good (in this case helping people win or get a PR).

Shoveling snow off of what is essentially an advertisement for a race- then alerting the media to your own awesomeness-does not demonstrate "good in the world." Boston boy should stop banditing races and use his shovel to help dig out an elderly person who lives in his neighborhood. THEN he'd be doing some good in the world.
He didn't "alert the media". He very quietly performed an unselfish act. Someone else saw it and publicized it thereby making a lot of us feel good. What's you're problem?
Shut up, democrat.

My problem is with people who swoon over acts of "slactivism," and whose concept of "making a difference in the world" begins and ends with liking whatever feel good (but meaningless) crap that appears in their Facebook feed. Meanwhile, the only time they get off their a$$es and do something is when there's a photo op to be had.
I also have a problem with people who lack critical thinking skills when it comes to analyzing what they are spoon fed by the media. Do you REALLY believe this guy wasn't looking for attention? He made sure his coworkers knew what he did. Our reluctant hero also was pretty quick to reveal himself when the camera crews showed up. Why, he even had a speech about heroes prepared! Meanwhile, he has no qualms about stealing from his beloved Boston Marathon by banditing its races.
Please people. THINK. Don't dumb down our country even more, m'kay?
I find it ironic that you claim to have a problem with people lacking critical thinking skills.

Care to elaborate?
I don't care who she is or isn't...I'm not impressed. If he or she posts something that I believe is jealously or crap, I'll comment with my opinion just as he or she did as the thread starter. She's no better or no worse than me or anyone else, just another OP on LR. The fact is the guy was merely shoveling snow off of a finish line. If it wasn't a setup, meaning the guy who took the photo was his friend, then what's the problem if he was a bandit or not? What does that have to do with him shoveling the snow? I find zero correlation in the 2 separate facts. He loves running so much that he wanted to run the Boston Marathon course without a number. Did he take valuable water at aid station, robbing it from an official runner? I doubt it.

You must be a newbie if you don't know who Tx is. She's bringing up a legitimate point for discussion btw.
Sure. Your post was a classic example of someone who lacks critical thinking skills. I don't expect you to understand.
Always a d!ck or did it come later in life?

As I thought. No response. Hope you're a better race bandit than you are a troll!
You quote my response and then write "no response". Thanks for proving my point.

For what he did from his heart, to me it doesn't matter to me if he was a bandit. I find it moot. Now that he's called out on it and with adidas giving him a number, I'm positive he will try to qualify for future Boston's.
Now, however, I think he is onto something. Keeping the finish line clear. I think there will be dedicated volunteers who will step up and keep it cleared.
No, what this opens the door, is for new age artist to use this to create a spray paint art on the finish line logo. A great message would be to spray paint art making a stop to the killing of whales .
That's got to be the dumbest post I've ever read on LRC. That's a major accomplishment.
