Ha! Ha! I know it sounds made up, but it's not. Big ski hill, for Michigan anyways:) We train in that area as it's got some hills.

No; he has no chance for the record.
I was going to say that 8:29 might be a bit much for Grant, but now there's a 100% chance that he'll do it.
In all seriousness, 8:29 is probably a stretch, but Grant could go well into the 8:30s if he goes for it. However, he probably won't end up running much faster than 8:50 because of his coach's philosophy.
I really like Grant's focus on long-term development, and his refusal to time-trial everything. However, I hope he does go for sub four, because that is truly the standard of high school greatness, not just any fast time. He almost certainly has the fitness to do it, and putting him in one or two fast races for this purpose, won't ruin any of his potential.

I live in Grand Blanc and have witnessed workouts and also saw him at the State Meet in Brooklyn. Trust me, don't put anything past this kid as he's tough as nails.

Grand Blanc is in Genesee County.
Yes, but I go to Oakland University, live there and run there, hence Oakland County Runner. Thanks for telling me what I already know. I went to Grand Blanc High School and my parents still live there. Hope that helps ya?

You think the two-time foot locker champ, whose best event is the mile, won't run faster than 8:50 if he attempts a fast time?

Fisher will not be better than Verzbicas.
People seem to forget that after wining FL AND NXN he won the Mile, 2 Mile (just off HSR) , and 5k (HSR) at NBIN and then ran sub 4 and sub 8:30.
I'd also say that the field Verzbicas had to run against were superior than today's crop of upperclassmen. Cheserek, Rosas, Moussa, Gedyon, Oshier, Lutz, just to name a few.
Sub 4 will put him near the top, but not better than Verzbicas, unless he runs something like 3:56 or under.
Speaking of Elias Gedyon....Does anyone know what he's up to? Didn't he go to Oregon?
Post them again and see if it works
He ran 4:07.29 today at Grand Valley. Three guys under 4:10.
His coach is a genius. He's taken all of the pressure off of Grant.

which, apparently, is to emphasize winning races. Seems like a reasonable philosophy.
Holy shit. Anyone know how the race unfolded? So much speed right there. Brazier and Wetzel both either ran open (Brazier- 1:48.6) or split (1:49 relay) sub 1:50 800s last year. I'd like to see what Grant can do over 800.

Obviously Grant's a boss. But damn, the 2nd and 3rd place finishers are dangerous. I'd like to these 3 face off in a fresh 800m. Could Fisher dip under 1:50 this year?

Totally agree, they were right there and certainly weren't blown off the track.

Brazier has improved incredible amounts from last indoor where he wasn't even the indoor state champ and that mile he ran was simply sensational and all on feel. He closed from 300-200 to go but lacked the strength as GF pulled away slightly. Donavan doesn't get nearly the press he should after winning NBON and going sub 1:49. He is dangerous for sure.
Wetzel is a freak of nature, plain and simple. When he was a freshman he ran a 7 second PR almost every time he ran the 1600/mile ending with a second place finish at NBIN Frosh mile in 4:20. Then he ran 1:54. and 4:20 in the same meet. Unfortunately he was injured later that season and did not run for almost an entire year. 4:09 doesn't surprise me. Villanova has the DMR leadoff/anchor of the future in this kid. BTW - he was a damn fine soccer player in his youth too...
I'm petitioning that these three run the 1600 fresh at the Michigan State Meet May 30th - you may see something very special.
This was the fastest High School mile ever in Michigan and the first time 3 have been sub 4:10.0
Fisher could run sub 1:50, but none of them can right now.
